Series 1 hybrid rear motor service ?

I was looking at getting the gear box an oil service (by a garage if I can find one with experience), there is a Japanese sticker saying the last service was at 60k KM and next due 160k KM (am at 140k Km currently).
Does anyone know if the rear motor needs servicing (oil change presumably). I can't find any reference in the English translation owners manual.

The Toyota Club.Net shows 1.5ltrs ATF Type T-IV. Has anyone any experience of this? Many thanks

Hi, anyone know where the auxiliary battery is located on 2005 alphard hybrid campervan, problem is the car won't start without a jump start there is a battery below the gear shift but i think this is a leisure battery. thanks.

Air conditioning failure

Hi all

This has been a very long saga, but to keep things as brief as possible, I've been investigating an AC fault on this 2005 Alphard Hybrid for quite a while and it looks like there may be a fault with the AC amplifier. Basically, the voltages going to the inverter converter from this amplifier as non existent. I've checked it all out against another vehicle with working AC to confirm this. All of these voltages come from the AC amplifier (see photo) but I have no idea where this is located in the vehicle. Any ideas?

The fault code I've retrieved from the climate control panel (code 98) reports communication error between inverter and hybrid control ECU. This is a generic description, so I don't really think it is helping a great deal. As a result of this, the AC compressor is not activating.

I have really struggled to find any technical information for this vehicle, so any help would be much appreciated.

Why does my dashboard display an image of a car keep flashing red on my 2002 Alphard after the engine is turned off? The flashing car image goes when car is running? I have 2 Alphards and have never seen this on my other.

Alphard hybrid can’t go ready mode

Long story short

Bought a alphard hybrid 05 for project car

First scan, p3140, c1310, p1259

Solve p3140, someone opened inverter over and unplug service plug switch connector

Clear the code , and then become p3000

spend sometimes eventually found out block 10 voltage only got 3-7 v , but those cell are good

and realise might be service plug big fuse gone ,( but weird, i can measure whole battery 22x V, but block 10 low voltage.

try to use jumper leads short 2 cell, bring block 10 to 15v , clear code, now p3000 gone

Try to start go into ready mode, but nothing happen

scan again got p3004…..

anyone got idea what should i do next step?

is it bad HV battery ECU?
or even inverter?

when i try to start, i can hear HV battery contactor click, but system seems refuse to go into ready mode

Hi there

New to this forum and to the alphard so hello!

We bought our Alphard camper conversion a few months ago from friends of ours who used it as their daily driver. Now it mostly sits and gets driven a couple of times a month at most.

My partner went to start the camper tonight and set the alarm off as she used the wrong fob to deactivate the alarm (we have the optional toyota fitted version with the triangular sensor/LED thing on the dashboard). Now we can't deactivate it as the battery is flat.

The van is sat making a loud ticking noise....which I assume is the alarm trying to sound but as the battery is flat it can't. When I tried to turn the ignition hoping to cancel it, there was very feint flashing of the dash lights and the interior mood(?) lights and the tick stopped but as the engine couldn't turn over it returned as soon as the key was removed. If I leave it like this any idea if it's damaging anything (apart from my nerves) and will it just go on until the battery is toatly dead?

Please help with how can I fix this? Preferably without annoying the whole street.

Should I remove the barrty and charge it? Where is it? Is it the one between the front seats or is that the leasure battery? This is the second time the battery has flattened so I'm thinking that there might be a drain somewhere and/or I need to get a new battery though this one is less than a year old.

I'm usually pretty good with cars but this is our first hybrid and camper conversion and there's a fair bit to get my head round.

Starter Battery

My 03 Alphard 2.4 Hybrid E-four ATH10 campervan has drained the leisure and starter battery even with nothing on and now relies on a noco to start it every time.

I've replaced the leisure battery and that had it's life sucked out within the week. The starter battery is under a captain's seat and I can't see what it is to order a new one. I'm well past my prime and only want one attempt at removing the seat!

It had a new starter battery in 2021 but doesn't state it's details on the receipt.

The hybrid had to be refurbished in 2023, it's costing more in batteries than lpg & petrol 😂

Not long after we got our ‘02 2.4 van I got a no start situation, all dead no lights etc. Under bonnet check revealed very slightly loose positive terminal connection, (eyelet on cable to battery post clamp slightly loose.

Nipped up & all was well.

Recently van is used as 2nd vehicle and problem arose again & more often + both terminals this time.

Spring washers sourced & during fitting noticed battery moving slightly on tray. Close inspection revealed with a bit of effort it would move rotationally quite a bit, home made extension noted on clamp bracket leading to discovery that battery was far bigger than mounting tray!

It’s a 70A/hr unit and I haven’t referred to standard spec yet.

Main issue was to get it solidly held in place.

7mm wide cable ties fitted at one end but shape of tray support stymied opposite end, but it’s SOLID now.

Multiple stops per day

I’m a delivery driver in Canada (🥶) and I use my Alphard hybrid 2006 for work. I make dozens of stops (some stops will be for up to 10 minutes) per day, so my question is: is it better to shut off my engine or leave it idle (and lock the doors) while I’m making a delivery?

is there a way to check that the ECU (behind passenger glove box) is working correctly?

having dried out the passenger footwell and sprayed WD40 on connectors in that area the car still starts intermittently again failing to recognise the hybrid battery.

have checked for leaks from roof drains and sealed windows with Captain Tolleys crack cure and footwells are dry now despite heavy rain but problem persists! Also WD40’d the HV connectors under the silver cover in engine bay!

was wondering if a replacement ECU is worth a go but expensive, even second hand. Unfortunately don’t know anyone locally with a working 2.4 2004 hybrid I could swap with to test it out!

If theres a scenario where we need to replace individual cells rather than an entire battery for the sake of cost savings, I've heard Gen1 Prius has hybrid battery cells. Im wondering if the Estima Hybrid has compatiable battery cells as well.

Has anyone already performed such homework?

Strange sound while driving 2004 Alphard Hybrid

Hi. I've recently noticed a strange sound while driving, especially when not accelerating (therefore using the electric motor): it's a low-pitched, smooth, rotating rumbling sound, very regular, near the back, possibly associated with the drive chain(?). It's not loud and there is no clanging or clunking at all. I wonder if this is normal and I just started noticing it or...? It's driving just fine. Anyone?

Also, I live in Vancouver, Canada. Anyone out there know of a good, reliable mechanic here?
