@Voodoo101 can i ask what kind of issues you have experienced with the head units? If you have posted already about them just link me to the post and I'll take a look. But these seem to be plug n play apparently and are vehicle specific (hopefully 😅) Price is the only thing putting me off for now.
My car came with a 7 inch Sony touchscreen unit. It had DAB radio, MP3 player and Android Auto / Car Play but the connection was a bit flacky. I chanced it for a 10 inch Android Unit with a replacement trim. This was when these units was mainly AliExpress. It lasted a month until the touch screen failed and ended going back.
I used the Sony unit till last year when I decided to give an Android unit another go, this time going for a more reputal dealer, not AliExpress. I bought an Eonon 10 inch double din floating unit. A few months later it went really slow and would take about 10 minutes to connect to the GPS.
They replaced it with another unit which would show the randomly show the Google Map full screen but really zoomed in and then the keys and touchscreen would not work. I spent more time on these two units resetting them. I actually kept a sim card remover in the car.
They then replaced it with the newer model that the reversing camera did not work and the screen would flicker on and off

There is a fuse in the passenger side fuse box. Controls the reversing switch. I had the same problem, no beep when reversing, no gear indication on the dash. I went through all the fuses and found it in there

They are base on the android head units. Considering the quality of android head units around, i don't think i would trust it, but i'm on about my 4th head unit. Others may have had better luck and might say different

Hi @Voodoo101, have you managed to find solution for this? I have the same problem. My Android unit cannot read the CAN bus. Hence I'm missing a bunch of good features like parking guideline curving following turning of the steering wheel. Not to mention seeing sensors info through the camera view, and other vehicle settings/infos.
My model is Vellfire 2024 (Petrol model). From my research, the hybrid model (that comes with amplifier) uses CAN bus system but the pure Petrol model doesn't. Hence I'm stuck, the car is working fine with speakers and steering wheels control but I would love to have full access of features and info through CAN bus.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hey Tony.
I ordered a new cable off AliExpress that has a lead that plugs into the OBD reader. I haven't tried it yet cause I am upgrading to a 15 inch head unit. I have Raise canbus decoder which should all work together to give me the extra features.
There is a post on this forum of somebody who tapped into the cables going to the speedo unit, because all the info goes to there aswell, but im not brave enough to do that. If the cable doesnt work, i can just unplug lol

Assuming that the head unit itself is behaving itself I would say it's safe to assume it's the camera, you could try unplugging it from the head unit and plugging it back in to see if that makes a difference, but to start planning to replace it.
Check Amayama.com to get the correct part number and description and see whether you can get the same part elsewhere. For mine it's a 'CAMERA ASSY, TELEVISION
(8679058011)' and would cost 400 Ukp, but looking on ebay I can get a used part for under 100 Ukp.I would recommend taking a look at the current camera (i.e. take the lining of the boot lid off and check the connections there) - it's always possible that something has moved and you can take the opportunity to check the connectors are what you expect.
Yeah, I think I need to take it all apart and check the cables because I got in the next day and it worked fine, then the following day it failed again. Could be a look connection.
The other idea I had. I heard that the camera changes brightness depending on light around. Mine never did this, at night time it was useless, so I'm guessing the sensor has gone

My trusty 16 year old 230,000 mile Vellfire has developed a little fault today with the rear camera.
Its been working fine, but today it flashed bright and then went really dark. You can still see the picture but its like when a TV backlight has gone. Has anybody has this before, is it fixable or is it a replacement part.
Im assuming its fitted to more then just the Alphard / Vellfire. If so then it should be available from a scrappy or even Toyota.
Anyone have any fixes before I go an buy a new one?

Your choices are down to what you want. Search the forum and there will be loads of answers as its a common question. What functionality you have at the end of it depends on what you chose

The are a few taped up connectors hidden in the dash, there were several headunit types, that's all.
This one was not taped up and had been used. As I said it has the reverse line and the brake line in the same connector. I cant see why it would have another 12v power and earth in that cable when the unit would draw power from the main power connector which is why it is bugging me so much
-
I have a cable behind my head unit thats really bugging me. It has four cables, Red, Red, Blue and Black. I have tested with a meter and one cable is the reverse signal to put the head unit rear camera on. Another is the brake signal, to stop you watching videos while driving, the other two seem to be and earth and 12v, but I cant see any point for them as the head unit feed is on a different plug. Im kinda thinking its some sort of signal voltage but i can see any voltage change.
Does anybody have an idea what these two wires are actually for because its starting to drive me mad
-
Yes I still have these fitted. I have two sets of brand new Ballast sat doing nothing. LEDs are working perfect. I changed the headlights aswell and I can actually see now when its dark

Im so surprised this has not been answered by anyone

Have you looked on AliExpress. They generally have adaptors on there for most cars

I got fog light replacements for the reflectors in the rear "bumper" panel, from Amazon for less than £20 if I remember correctly. They have two light levels so appear to be stop / tail lights but by selecting the stop light connection, they make a good fog light.
A car on Facebook failed its MOT the other day with them because it takes away the reflector. I think it depends on the MOT tester but its a chance

I would get a bluetooth ODB II scaner and the free car scanner app. A lot less the £400. Run the app and driver the car with it connected. See what speed it reads. If it reads different to the speedo then you know its the speedo, if not then you know its the speed sensor. At least then you can also read all the ECU fault codes which will point you in the right direction
Also why would a service help the problem, like and oil and filter change will fix a sensor. It sounds like the garage you are using has seen you as an easy payday.

Hi
I looked into getting Canbus information to the head unit but there is no signal in the wiring behind it. It looks in your photo that you are taking it from behind the dashboard which makes sense as all the data is shown on the dash. I think you can also get it from the ODB socket, in fact I bought a cable a long time ago from AliExpress that came with an ODB plug. I never tried it

I've seen on a few Russian Toyota, and on the Japanese yahoo groups.
It was something i had thought of installing, for full oem, but the cost of the components and shipping were greater than the valanti retroreflectors.
That was my thought. I thought about getting some UK replacements from another car but its the cutting holes in the bumper making them fit.
-
So I am one of the many people who had a reversing light changed to a fog light, with a cheap switch drilled into the dash. Its always really annoyed me.
Then I saw a post on here with a video installing a new stalk with rear fog light switch, dashboard light working and wiring a new light in replacement to the reflectors at the bottom of the bumber.
A post asking where to get to stalk came from a kind answer from a member called Gamath, taking me to Amayama.
As you do, I decided to browse the site looking what other upgrades I could go for and found a Rear Fog lamp assembly for the ANH20 Vellfire. It seams to fit at the top of the bumper where it goes up the tailgate.
There is a wealth of knowledge in this group. I wondered if anybody has seen anything like this fitted?

You have aftermarket camera or headunit?
You are right, that does not look good, it's like it doesn't have a low light setting.
The camera is the original camera. The head unit is an Android head unit. It is connected with an adaptor. I have never had the original head unit. When I got the car it had a Sony Head Unit and the camera was not wired in. Infact it was quite a mess with the cables behind there.
If the camera can work better in the dark, i might have a look in the settings and see if I can change something

I have a similar one.
Does not slip over sensor or move around, and that's without Velcro or other fastening.
Prevents reflected summer glare really well.
You are right but when you put it in you have to make sure the holes dont cover the sensor is what I meant. It took me a while to figure out why my lights was on in the day, especially as I had just done electrics lol. The only problem I had was in strong winds with both doors open, but thats to be expected with a the wind flowing through

Where did you get the swalk with the rear foglight switch?

You can buy dash mats to stop the dash becoming sticky.
But too late if it is already sticky.
I bought this one. Its looks like real leather and fits perfect. Just make sure it does not slip over the daylight sensor. The quality and fit is great and the price of it is amazing.

It looks really nice. That was my first choice but the wife wanted white and getting anything but white near me was tough. I also have the velour interior, not a lover of leather especially in summer.
The interior is very hard wearing, the only wear I have is the drivers armrest.
One more thing to consider is the dashboard. It has a habit of being sticky in summer if it gets direct heat when parked. There are dash covers you can buy, some are felt (stay away from these). I bought one from AliExpress, its like a fake leather and fits perfect. For the price of it, its better then having to fix the dash. There are different options. I just went for the plain black

There are 3 fuse boxes. I fitted a head unit and it had a short inside while I was driving. I had some of your problems when that happened.
The gear selector indicator is on a fuse in the passenger footwell. You will also notice that there is no beep and even if you get the head unit working, there will be no reversing camera. That is all controlled by the gear selector fuse, which is why the doors wont open. it does not know if it is in park or not.
The fuse for the head unit is in the engine bay fuse box if I remember rightly. My guess is that there are other fuses that have blown at the same time.
Also check your alternator after. Mine packed up at the same time. A recon unit is available on ebay if that is the case.
Rule number 1 when fitting a head unit. Disconnect the battery lol
