Looking to get a rear awning - if anyone has one, pls can you let me know brand and model?

Thanks

Thanks,

Looks good for summer use.

I haven't yet got to checking all the measurements yet; with winter coming it is not a high priority.

I was hoping to get one that fits over the tailgate while it's open.

I have seen some at silly prices (£1200!) but nothing that meets the good fit / price compromise.

Riemo do some; in fact everyone does them for VWs. One of the major benefits of VW ownership. But.

I love my Alphie.

"The price is right".

It's a Spring purchase for me.

Plenty of time for more research!

If I find a unit that fits over the hatch I'll be in touch with you.

I had a Reimo that fitted under the open hatch of my Peugeot Partner. It was watertight - an elasticated band went round the lip on the car - which is a consideration. Not sure how the one Shawn found fits - it looks like there is no roof to the awning. The German text does tell you much.

Here are 2 that go over the the top,

Would have to check size.

I wonder though if perhaps they could rub away at the paint in a strong wind .

Actually, looking again at your first suggestion, Shawn, I was right in that it has no roof section. It fits inside the tailgate using press-studs. It is only suitable for hardboard-lined tailgates.

I think i'll track down some VWs with my tape measure and do a direct comparison of the dimensions!

Hi Shawn,

They are more suitable assuming they fit an Alphie.

I have considered the possibility of abrading the paint on windy days.

I have been looking at neoprene to cover the headlights when not in use, to prevent yellowing.

I could use neoprene to stop abrasion of the tail gate but then I have another item to find a space for !

More research needed !

Looking at the first of these, it seems very suitable.

It looks like you erect the tent and than reverse into it.

I particularly like what appears to be 'rain deflectors' at the bottom of each tent face.

Thinking about it, without checking VW measurements, I seem to recall they are wider and less tall than an Alphie.

the hight can be adjusted by carrying a shovel and bricks,

you can dig a hole for the back wheels or drive it up on bricks.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 🤣   🤐

Yes, but what do I do about the width difference ?

Styrofoam sheets will do it.

I have decided on an articulated trailer, then I'll have room for everything, including my spa bath.

Now that's just being silly.

Why not just buy another Alphie and park them up end to end with tailgates raised ??

That's a brilliant idea !

Somebody needs to make an Alphard stretch limo .

Great idea, but I'll still need a tent to keep the wind out. Can't cook in a howling gale, even with two Alphies.

I suppose I could cook in one and sleep in the other.

Many years ago I lived in the States. In some areas of Tennessee it was quite common for the enthusiasts to have a tricked up vehicle and tow an identical vehicle, with the front half removed, behind it. Some looked incredible. But four tonnes, or so, would take my over the limit on my Old Folks Drivers Licence.
