Geoff Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Hi all. I know there are a lot of posts about this, but I'm struggling to find a right answer for me. I will take delivery soon of either a 2005 or 2008 3.0L Alphard, depending on whichever vehicle is completed first. My dealer (20 years of importing Alphards) will install whatever we send him, & is experienced to know how to retain any front and/or rear camera or sensors. ( He also installs rear sensors) & knows how to retain steering controls. Heres what i need :- new complete radio/sat nav replacement ( sat nav must work off the unit, NOT via phone), must also have DAB Radio with DAB antenna, rear camera. Ive seen some from Xtrons & Dynamic Sounds but unsure of which unit. Can anyone point me in the right direction on my request. Many Thanks
Rojie Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Hi Geoff, Welcome to the Forum. I'm sure that lots of our Members will be offering advice on this topic. As you suggest, there is a lot of info, and opinion, on this topic. Please do the reading, it may be confusing, but will probably be enlightening. 2008 is a crossover year for Alphards. (So is 2005!). It would help our members to help you if we knew what model your 2008 might be. 2008 is a late Evo 1 (facelifted) or an early Evo 2. 2005 is an early Evo1 or a facelifted Evo 1 The body side panels, among other things, differentiate between the two. If you are sure both engines are 3.0l V6 then you will have a Evo 1 (as the Evo 2 is 3.5l V6). If you don't know, upload a side view photo. It may also help to know the head unit type number (or a photo). Whatever, if you upgrade your head unit, be careful. Some upgrades will cause you to lose camera functions and/or steering wheel control (of the head unit).
Geoff Posted November 10, 2021 Author Posted November 10, 2021 Ok Rojie. Thanks for the info. Im looking at the 2008 on Saturday, so should know whether its Evo 1 or 2. If we go for this vehicle, then we will forego the 2005 model I mentioned, as that one is not in the country until the 30th of this month. I am convinced though, that my dealer will be able to keep any camera functions and/or steering wheel controls, as he has conducted many replacements over the 20 years he's been importing them. You mention” head unit type number”. How a d where can i find this info? cheers Geoff.

I suggest you explicitly ask your dealer about retaining full control before you have it replaced. After their confirmation you would have a legitimate comeback if needed.
Geoff Posted November 10, 2021 Author Posted November 10, 2021 Sure Rojie. I will ask him about retaining steering controls. I’ll take a look on Saturday & re-post once I get the head unit type thanks again.

Geoff Posted November 15, 2021 Author Posted November 15, 2021 Absolutely Ldrego. Does that unit also work rear camera & works from steering controls?
ThuMentaliss Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 I fitted with (assistance) an Alpine 7" Sat nav media head unit does all the usual stuff, phone music radio etc, added two alpine cameras with control units displaying the front outside wide angle and rear wide angle display this also allows you to set it up as a reversing camera, problem is the Sat Nav is no match for the 7" Ventura Snooper and the recent introduction of the Alpine 9" Halo makes the cost of such a luxury well over £1500 disappointing.
