Hi all. Can anybody recommend what bulbs and size I can use in the headlights and side light's instead of the original ones. LED preferred as they look more up to date and are brighter than originals.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

Hi Ian,

ย

Thanks for this. I have blue sidelights, which I don't really care for, and one has blown.

I am told they are easy to fit. Do you agree ?

ย

I'll look into the options at Hid4U.

Yes, a little fidley but easy. I used ice white sidelights and matched them up with the dipped headlight. Got DRL's going on after Xmas.๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

I already have a two small rows of blue DRLs fitted low in the grill.

They do work, my wife says so, but no idea where the switch is yet.

ย

So many things to discover, and enjoy.

They should light up when your car starts up. There should not be a switch if they are wired in correctly.

Just checked. They do. Thanks for preventing wasting my time how to switch them off.

Hi Ian, Nov

ย

I needed to go to Halfords today, so I thought I would check out the side lights.

ย

Very interesting.

ย

I took a guess at the type I needed, and got it wrong.

What I bought were not T10, but no big deal; they were quite cheap. W501 I think. 5W, Blue in colour but emitting 3500k white light !

ย

However, what I did notice that most led lights on sale were (fairly) clearly marked for OFF ROAD use only !

ย

I assume anyone fitting the 35w or even 60w LEDS as side lights may fail the MOT.

ย

I just checked your threads and links. Thanks.

ย

I should have bought W5W. No matter, no disaster.

ย

Thanks to both for your help.

Hi Nov,

ย

How were these sidelights.ย

They don't appear "error free".

Are you getting any flashing or canbus errors with them ?

ย

Hi Nov,

ย

Were these OK.

Mine didn't fit.

Did you need to modify the lamp socket or force the leds into it ?

The black part has a shoulder that prevented me from pushing the new unit into the socket.

ย

The supplier has given the option of some replacements, but so many to choose from !

ย

I was able to test the supply to the wiring, which is OK.

Thanks Nov, I appreciate your help.

I have chosen not to use mine. If one fails out into the light unit I'll never get it out again !

I bought some from Halfords which fit fine, but are too dim.

ย

Oh what fun ..

These ones are snug, fully encapulated too, so wont corrode, I have used these in an older Regius and in my Alphard, I have these bulbs in the front side lights, rear sidelights, numberplate lights and all my internal lights except the boot light, which is a different socket type.

Pure white light and brighter than originals - I used a different type of led previously, they suffered from corrosion and started flickering and dimming after a couple of months, these ones seem to be doing well.

The price is for 10 bulbs, so I bought 2 sets and did whole car in one go (2nd Gen Alphard)

Hi Chris,

ย

Thanks for this.

I am being sent some replacements, hopefully they will fit 'snugly'

I also bought a different type, cylindrical, from another vendor.

ย

If all that fails, I'll go with these. Thanks again.

ย

ps I bought some tiny rear reflectors. Will advise when I receive them !
