Hello, i hope someone can offer some help. i have a 2003 Alphard conversion form Direct Campers. I have had it since 2020 but no managed to use it as much as i would like. We last went away in August last year and then moved house and got married so this coming weekend is the first time we will be using it as a 'camper'. today i have cleaned out the inside and tested everything is in working order. It is fitted with an internal LPG tank with a propex system. I turned it on and got the green lights which are showing as full (i filled it before our trip last year so it should be full). anyway on turning on there is no sound, usually you can hear a click as the gas is turned on. So lights on but no gas coming out of the hob, heater or BBQ feed at the rear. I have emailed Direct campers with no reply as yet so thought i would put this out here too as i only have 5 days to get this fixed before we go away.

Thanking you in advance 🙂

Just to update anyone that's interested. it turns out the valve was stuck. I have spoken to Jay at propex who is incredibly helpful and after a couple of fault findings i was advised to remove the plunger which was obviously stuck. Just waiting for replacement parts now.

That's handy to know. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tony10,

I'm glad you've got this sorted. Just as a precaution, it's worth noting that campervan conversions typically have mains electricity, gas and water, all in a relatively small space, and it's worth having an annual habitation check to ensure there are no problems/leaks, ventilation is OK, smoke/CO alarms are functional etc. Our insurers also stipulate that we have a fire extinguisher handy....  I guess some people may be able to do habitation checks themselves, but for peace of mind we've had our annual check done by our local garage/campervan hirer .

Hi pcous,

What was the approximate cost of your Habitation check.

Were you provided with a Certificate ?

Hi Rojie,

Our local guy charges £75 plus vat (without drain-down) and provides a checkbox certificate, ticking each item. He's thorough - for instance last year he recorded there were no batteries in the CO/smoke detectors (I'd taken them out over winter to avoid discharging when we weren't using the van and forgot to pop them back in again before I took it in for the check!). I've attached a list of what's covered - some of the underbody checks obviously don't apply to an Alphard conversion, e.g. body-chassis/cab-body mountings, corner steadies/steps, al-ko, also toilet, locker etc, but it's a reassuring check, especially for mains electrics and gas.

Hi pcous,

Thanks for your answer.

It was a general enquiry intended for the informational benefit of all our members.

Very thorough, and not an unreasonable price imho.

Most Caravan suppliers will also be able to provide a Habitation Check service.

Thanks again
