I need to transport the kayaks. Heavy duty D-rings, bolts with washers and I now have 4 solid tie points. They fit flush, dont grab or scrape the door rubber and with some pool noodles to protect the roof should be ok.

  • How do you get at the nuts ?

The holes are threaded, no nuts needed.

So are the holes existing, or have you drilled and tapped ?

I don't need a roof rack, but it is a common question to the Forum.

It certainly looks extremely neat.

Thanks for sharing it.

The threaded holes are there, just remove the plastic insert.

Hi Terry, I’ve just put a deposit down on an ‘08 Alphard and was beginning to regret the decision due to the roof rack issues with transporting Kayaks. To make things more complicated I have a pop up roof.

However I think your post may just save a cancelled sale.

Where did you source those D rings? They are the answer to my prayers!

If they are custom made could you let me know who made them for you please?

I have a pop up top so I think I can’t fix rails or a rack as the bars either need a standard roof or the clearance of rails won’t go over the height of the custom roof, but these rings combined with inflatable pads will make things work.

I’m an avid paddler so I’m desperate to find a solution.

Thanks for any information and this is my first post here.

Cheers. 👍👍
