2.4 owners, what's the best MPG you managed to get on motorways?

Thanks to forum I have just realised I have been driving around in 3rd gear (D3) not 4th (D)- so hope to see an improvement - and no I don't feel dumb 😉

Back in August 2022 when I bought Alfie, I was told to drive with the gear lever over to the right. I must have filled up around 3 times before I realised my mistake. Looking back on it an easy mistake to make.

I've had my 2007 2.4l Alphy for a couple of months. I'm tracking the MPG and I'm getting somewhere around 27 for mixed driving. On a longish run along the A303 recently (about 180 miles total) I got aover 29 mpg which I'm well chuffed with. That was driving  between 65  and 70.

Just done a 900 mile camping trip to Scotland from Manchester. 4 passengers, pets, bikes, paddleboards, 1 week's food supplies....rammed full!

Counted the miles between filling up tank twice, 30.3mpg average! I'm fairly light footed and tend to stick between 60 and 65mph on motorways.
