Foglight

Right guys, just want some advice, read the threads about foglights on here but still not 100%.

 

As you can see, button is going in the usual place but what I want to know is do I need to make my own circuit up as in run wires through the roof or can I tap into an oem loom that has been made for the fogs? I was going to use a reverse light location but I saw someone mention the right hand side light has the connector for the foglight in?

Hello Wafu,

 

Welcome to the Forum.

 

Hopefully you have read about replacement rear fogs NOT being reflective,

If you replace your reflectors with fog lights, to comply with the MOT requirements you will need additional reflectors.

 

Most rear fog lights, combined with reflectors, do NOT reflect !

 

Caution required.

Thanks! Was going to leave reflectors, like I said was going down the reverse light or side light route but just not sure if there is an existing loom for the foglight in place or whether I will need to run wires from the front dash to rear lights.

2008 is a crossover year.

 

If yours is a Gen 2, Chris.ac may be able to advise you, as he has a Gen 2

Gen 1 facelift, yeah I've read some of Chris's posts. If I can't find anything I will just make my own circuit up.

wire loom exists, there should even be a connector behind those buttons to connect a switch to.

There should exist the relay socket and fuse position in the boxes already.

Yeah I read that thread, should be doing it over the weekend. Just currently doing a service on it in the evenings, just got the oil filter and rear bank of plugs to change.

 

So once I hook up a switch is there a vacant plug from the loom in the tail light for a fog I guess is what I am asking? If there is, just saves me running any daft wires down the car. Think I am getting a bit mixed up as I know you said there is a loom in the door but not sure if it carries on to the rear lights.

 

Really happy with the car though, probably needs a respray on the bumper due to scuffs and a touch up pen but it still baffles me how, for an 06 car they keep the under sides in such good condition, salt or no salt.

it should be a plug already in use for the sidelight and brake, but with the spare wire present for the permanent switched live.

Its one of the things that puzzles me, in terms of cost to toyota, its the cost of a switch and fuse /relay.

 

lights on = sidelight (5W) (Single filament illuminated)

brake on = brakelight (21W) (single filament illuminated)

foglight on = Brakelight (21W)

Haven't been able to identify the plug concerned for the fog lights, had my multimeter out. Doesn't help having a 3 year old running around the car pretending to cast spells on you either.

 

Anyway took some trim off down the right side and realised I can do a neat install with one of the sidelights on the boot lid so do that tomorrow evening.

 

I am guessing that is legal? Having a sidelight that you can switch to a foglight?
