What colour cable for the +ve line that supplies power to the rear window antenna amplifier?

Recommended Posts

Hi I have found with the second Alphard I’ve owned that a radio head replacement is essential. The low cost Chinese Joying is brilliant quality but regrettably the on board radio is rendered useless, because unless power can continue to be provided to the antenna amplifier there is no signal to the Joying head unit. The Joying has a 12v output for that very purpose but despite doing my best at reading Toyota circuit diagrams I’m not able to work out the correct cable for this. I have tried removing the rear offside window pillar cladding to locate the amplifier but feared breaking something important in the process. Any help with this would be most appreciated. Thank you.

In case this is important my  Alphard is a facelift model series 10 2005 with a 3L engine but maybe this is not relevant if Toyota stick to the same cable colours in all their ranges.

Hello Peter,

Welcome to the Forum.

Did you consider a frequency expander ?

Thank you Rojie for your suggestion and yes I did fit a frequency expander to my previous Alphard and I have to say that this was less than satisfactory. Still I had very few stations I could access, they were not easy to find and these few problems added to everything in Japanese then with this present Alphard I fitted a new Joying head unit. This is so very much better with many other excellent features and Android apps galore. I could access internet radio I suppose but then I do not want to use mobile data so in addition I fitted a DAB+ tuner. Thank you though for the thought.

You may need to get in touch with Ben Hau.

Thank you again but I’m not sure what you mean by “You may need to get in touch with Ben Hau” maybe you could explain please.

Thank you Peter

Just that he is an expert on Head Units; but he's in Birmingham.

Whether he is familiar with Joying, I don't know, as he has his own head unit upgrade implementation

Chris.ac is a whiz with electrics. He is very close to you but has a Gen 2.
