Hi all, I am in the process of shipping our Alphard 3.5 V6 (2009 year of manufacture) to the UK. Do you know how I can find out about ULEZ compliance in London? It seems that the TFL website requires a registration number to check whether the car is compliant. Our car is yet to be registered in the UK. Also, are there any good mechanics in or around London you could recommend for Alphard maintenance and modifications?

Thanks a lot.

The 20series are all ULEZ compliant, they are also compliant in Birmingham and Bath

(They are actually better than EURO IV spec)

Hello Markus,

Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome to Alphard ownership.

Chris is correct about ULEZ.

But ULEZ and Congestion charge are not the same.

Other cities also have controlled zones (whether they charge is a different matter).

Apologies if you know this already.

Thank you, Chris and Roger.

Appreciate the quick reply 🙂

I regularly use the Alphie for trips to Richmond Borough Council's recycling centre in Kew, which is just inside the ULEZ, so can confirm that 3.0 (02-08) is also compliant!

In terms of mechanics I have struggled in SW London. I recently got the alternator replaced at a local garage though sourcing it was a bit tricky.

For suspension fixes (including a replacement coilover kit) and other bits and pieces I have and ended up going out to Abbey Motorsport in Oxted as they specialise in Japanese imports and have a good parts supplier network. Their hourly rates are also more reasonable than garages in SW London! I find local garages want to source parts from Toyota, which can be eye-wateringly expensive.

Anything that's 06 onwards tends to be ok for ULEZ.

Hi Markus,

is that mean that we have to pay the CC as though the car complies with ulez standard?

thanks in advance

The Congestion Charge and ULEZ are not the same.

ULEZ is about emissions.

Congestion is about location; a surcharge (if you like) intended to deter entry into congested areas, thereby lessening the congestion !

 Agreed.

Unfortunately, Alphies prior to 2006 (July, I believe) are not 'seen' as compliant by the UK authorities (whether they are or not).
