Hi .

Can anyone kindly recommend an awning that would be suitable for a c section rail that is approx 2.1m?.....cant seem to find anything less than 2.4m wide.

Many thanks

Russ

I was noseying at camper awnings on a site last week and one Alphie I saw seemed have a kador(?) strip that was longer than their c rail. It just overhanged a bit and the tunnel from van to tent was just squashed a bit. I dont know if that would lead to problems in bad weather but it looked fine.

I'm getting tempted by the Mango Hexaway just now, it might be too big for my needs but it looks well smart.

Weve got a Vango Faros II Airbeam. The attachment strip (which will fit the C Rail) is approx 2.3 long, which means on your rail either 10cm each side (no issue if youuse  a driveaway strip, no issue, or 10cm each end, again, no real issue.

Took us ages to find one and this seems the shortest - most made for VW's...

Weve used ours loads and works really well, and use the storm straps over the van just to keep a bit more secure.

Many thanks for the advice. I've still not decided as yet. been looking at quite a few DIY awnings on Youtube etc .... a lot of good ideas out there including a roll out awning which takes half the time of even the basic sun canopy awnings to put up!! May go down that route as would be something entirely bespoke to the van.

Hi all. We have a Opra Hive Awning. Had to cut the drive away plastic drive away rail, the fabric section I just fold up under the pop top. Fits great and give you so much more room.

I use a Outdoor Revolution Cayman Midi Air Low

Same as, great fit and so easy to put up..

Same here. What rail are you using? I'm using a magnetic strip.

Another thread on here somebody had used sika fix and attached a metal rail under the pop top. so I did that.

If you cut the C section of the metal rail in a few places with a hacksaw it allows you to bend the rail to match the contour of the roof.

works pretty well.

Next plan is a solar panel and portable battery!

oh and this rug arrived today….

his stuff on the site is all for VWs but if you email him with sizes, colours, logo or whatever you want he will quote. Takes about 3 weeks to arrive.

I believe so, although I didn’t buy it directly from them.

Thought it might be. Bought mine from them. Very similar interior fittings & layout. 👍

We are away next week to do the NC500, just short stops so didn’t want to take the full awning so grabbed this to give us a bit of shelter.

Porch looks good. Hope the weather improves for you. Loch Assynt and Torridon have been very wet all week. Will you be posting your route/experiences on the forum? I’m planning to do the NC500 in May/June next year.

😂  Torridon has a ‘FREE’ campsite with FREE hot showers but one major problem - tents only, no campervans ☹️.  Our son is wild camping and Munro bagging at the mo. Due back tomorrow (438 mile journey) so will look to grill him on suitable sites to park up an Alphie.

We have planned and booked sites on the way round, also planned fuel stops as super unleaded is not that easy to get! Will update on all the sites we use, probably set up a thread in General Chat if anyone wants to follow our wee road trip.

Many thanks for that. Will look in to it. My rail is only about 2100mm though. Would it work with the overhang each side?

Regards

It should be fine, I have a wee bit each side, just used the storm straps on each end to stabilise it and keep it tight.
