Looking for help with reversing camera wiring so I can connect up the camera to my recently installed Pioneer double DIN head unit.

Some head units appear to have the reversing camera connections on a 4-pin white plug and the wiring appears to be well known......

Mine on the other hand has the wiring on a 2-pin blue connector (with outer shield connected to the cable screen). Brown and purple wires.....

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this or know what the brown and purple wires are.

I presume one is the video signal and the other is a DC power feed to the camera itself?

Thanks in advance.

no, that is a GVIF connector, it is used to transmit video digitally - often used in conjunction with overlay data - so this blue connector connects to the parking assist ecu, where it can combine video inputs and overlay, such as reverse lines, front side view angles, graphics for auto parking and sonar and the front/side camera images.

The rear camera should exist on one of the other connectors, but I can only advise on the 20 series.

Interesting........thanks Chris😇

Mine doesn't have the 4-pin connector that others report being for reverse camera so I need to have another look and try and find which connector it comes in on.

I sold my head unit so can only now look at the existing wiring in the car.

Should ask - do you have auto parking or the 3 camera setup?

What is 'auto parking' and 3-camera setup?

I thought mine only had a reversing camera but it does have this in the front grille......is this also a camera/cameras?

Yes, That is the front camera. Looks like a triple.

Forward looking at the ground to show how close you are to hitting something !

The other two are for 'Peep and Creep' when pulling out from blind corners or drives.

Not all aftermarket units work with the camera systems.

What Pioneer are you about to fit ?

Aha, thanks for this, I didn't realise it was a triple camera. I'm learning lots here😁

I've already fitted a Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB but only connected up the speakers, car play and steering wheel controls so far. These are all working fine.

It has video inputs for 2 cameras and an AUX Video/Audio input (mini jack).

Would be nice to also get at least the forward looking camera connected.

The forward looking camera, doesn't look forward; it looks downwards.

The other two don't look forward either.

They cannot be used as dash cams.

You may lose the cameras with the Pioneer.

Hopefully, someone else has fitted the same unit and can confirm it is possible to integrate the cameras.

Proceed with care; you won't want to be changing any fuses !

When I said ‘forward’ I meant ‘at the front’.

I’m not after dashcam functionality as I’ve already installed a Nextbase front/rear system.

I really only want reversing camera which I know the Pioneer can do, but I just haven’t yet found where it is connected to the original head unit.

No worries about blowing fuses…I have knowledge😉

Chris.ac - so is the reversing camera video being overlayed with the reverse guidelines in the parking assist ECU and then this 'overlayed' video sent in digital form to the head unit via the blue GVIF connector?

If this is the case then maybe there is no analogue video going directly into the head unit. I have seen references to being able to connect to the reversing camera analogue video in a connector under the passenger seat so maybe this is the way I need to go. If I had a set of proper wiring diagrams/schematics, I would work it out but I haven't managed to get that for my gen1.

The overlay is generated by the ecu, with steering wheel position/angle, and sonar data.

the actual video from the camera should be analogue, if you do not have the 4 wire connector, then you must have the loom that places the signal on one of the power connectors.

Its a shame i didnt save all the 10 series wiring whilst the russian mirror was live, and i cant justify the £60 odd  for the japanese maintenance cdrom

The mirror site doesn't have the hybrid specific sections, and it's missing the 2004 facelift updates.

Ah Right, I am happy with the cdrom though. got everything I need and with 16389 files its a mega resource. I found out immediately that the Camera's could not be connected via the original cables due to the reasons you and others give earlier. I fitted new camera's anyway. So not an issue. Thanks for your assistance in finding the cdrom Chris

I have traced the wiring for the reversing camera in my Alphard hybrid 2005 2.4 and found the blue two wire plug goes down to the centre console where other members say you can tap into the camera system, maybe I am one that has the unfortunate proxy jdm oddity wiring  , but after further searching I found two possible connect point with the four wire plug. one at the tailgate end where the camera plug connects to first vehicle plug, and the second is under the roof lining at the rear where the initial vehicle connector passes to the rest of the camera wiring harness. After reading through some of the comments by other members I am going to purchase a 12v camera just in case the new HU gives 12v and not 6v. I will test the voltage from the new HU first
