Audio message on start up

Hi, firstly hi to everyone as I only took ownership of my first Alphard 2 weeks ago and have already found the site to be full of useful information, so thanks. My question is when I first start the engine I get an audio message in Japanese. My investigations lead me to believe it is a friendly warning, but does anyone know what it actually says?

On my 2010, the car tells you the date in Japanese, then the ETC (Japanese tollroad system) tells you the card is not inserted.

It will also wish you merry christmas, apparently, if you drive it on the 25th.

I figured out what it was saying by using Google translate but I'm hoping there's a way to turn the "ETC notification" off, as I really don't need to hear it every time I start the van up! 🙂 Anyone?

Also, I have an airbag-shy 10 year old grandchild who won't ride in the front if I can't turn off the air bag. Does anyone know if this is an option?  (she usually rides in the front but occasionally I need to drive around with both grandkids and only have 2 passenger seats as I camperized my van.)

The best way to deactivate the airbag is by using an airbag srs defeat resistor ( they use them on rally cars,  for obvious reasons) 

They cost around £15, but you'll need to get to the socket to disconnect the airbag and insert the resistor. 

 

They are literally just a regular resistor, so if you know someone that has used a soldering iron and is technically minded, they could do it for less than £5.

You could of course just disconnect it, but without the resistor tricking the system, your airbag light on dash will stay on.

 

For ETC. You need to disconnect the plug at the back of the ETC card reader
