Adaptive Cruise Control 70mph Limit Removal

Recommended Posts

I know similar questions were asked before, but with no satisfying answer.

I have a 2003 hybrid Alphard with adaptive cruise control and everything works fine except that the theres's a ~70mph limit apparently because of some legislation in Japan from that period. The question is whether there is a way to get rid of or increase the limit? I have seen suggestions about how to remove the limit on Toyota Supra by using jumpers on the Computer Assy Cruise Controll, so I dismantled the dashboard and got access to the cruise control unit with the hope it will be the same PCB, but unfortunately it looks very different (the part number is 88240-58031) and it doesn't seem to have such a jumper terminal. Some folks suggested to replace the cruise control unit with a compatible one but for a non-JDM car. So I have these two questions:

  • Can the PCB of the 88240-58031 be tweaked somehow to remove/increase the limit?
  • Is there a compatible replacement for 88240-58031 from Toyota/Lexus cars for non-JDM market with adaptive cruise control?

Here are the pictures of the 88240-58031 I took out from the dashboard guts:

Any updates on this?

My '06 3.0L has standard cruise control (i.e. not adaptive) so doesn't have the distance control module behind the instrument panel.

Wiring diagrams for the '05 - '08 models seem to be difficult to find, so difficult to know which bit of the system is setting the cruise limit.

Chris.ac is a good source for wiring diagrams.

I believe a solution for this has been provided previously (not necessarily by Chris.

I respectfully suggest you search in the search box on your home page.

Or search through Chris's threads; but there are quite a few !

Hopefully Chris will rea this and respond to you.
