Hi all

I am due to drive through France to Spain in a few weeks. With a “grey” import the emissions information is missing from the V5. The car is a 3l V6.

My concern is there are an increasing number of EU cities requiring evidence of CO2 emissions/ Euro standard, without which you can incur quite large fines (Crit Air = 68 euros minimum in France) if you drive through the zone.

My car is ULEZ compliant in both London and Bristol. Unfortunately TFL does not provide any info on how they have assessed the emissions standard. I am also hesitant to enquire in case it is an error,  particularly as originally the car was not considered compliant.

In an attempt to get some evidence of the emissions standard, so I can obtain a European low emission zone classification, I have contacted various organisations.

Toyota UK has advised that they will not provide a Certificate of Conformity for a Japanese car that is not designed for the UK market. They instead directed me to the individual Vehicle Approval Scheme (IVA) run by the Government. A very helpful member of staff advised that the IVA does not test for emissions standards and suggested I seek a private test, which could cost around £3k, subject to establishing what the DVLA requirements are to amend the classification on the V5.

A private test is not an option for me. So it looks like I will have to avoid the major cities and the add extra miles and time to my journey.

Has anyone else managed to get any further than me?

What is your chassis code, e.g.. DBA-GGH20w

The first letters detail the emissions compliance

Hi Chris / all

I am having the same issue.  The first three letters of my chassis no. are ATH, which don't seem to tally with the list on those websites. Any help would be appreciated (I have a 2003 2.4L Hybrid).

Many thanks

Hi

I have just received my crit air sticker (2) for my 2008 vellfire from official French web certificat-air.gouv.fr  it cost me 4.61 euros. It seems you don't need to worry about meeting euro emission as it it is based on year of manufacture for vehicles that don't show euro standards in log book. So even the earliest Alphard would get crit-air 3 sticker. You can check this on the official French web sign it even translates into English.

Hi All,

Applied for my Crit'air sticker online on Sunday evening, received an email today ( Tuesday )with a copy of the sticker and my sticker is in the post. Crit'air 2.

All the information they needed on my Alphard could be found on my V5C even though it's a first registration in the UK V5C with next to no information on it.

They didn't need my emissions in CO2/gm which is a good job because I don't know what it is, I think the pertinent information is the year of first registration. I wasn't sure of the EU emissions category (4) but found it with an Internet search. When filling in the online form I put in the wrong information for EU emissions and the form wouldn't accept it, let me have another go at inputting the right information so the form is fool-proof.

Armed with my V5C, a picture of the V5C to upload as proof and good old PayPal the task was reasonably simple not least because of the option to select an English version of the application form. My french is not quite on a par with Del boy.  My only word of warning would be to make sure you are using the official French Government site where it will cost you just over £4.00 and not £20.00 + you will be charged on a third party site.

It really was straightforward.

Grumpy Grandad.

You can see the standards changed significantly in 2005, which is why dvla etc seem to struggle to assign the correct euro standard for those facelift alphard 10 series

Totally missed this post, months old!

Ath is your model, you need the 3 letters before that.

DBA is mine.

Hi,

I'm having real issues here.

Our November 2006 hybrid conversion is ULEZ compliant, no problem.

However all the CAZ sites in England and Scotland say she isn’t.
I’ve tried to find out why but nobody seems to know and I just get told I need to provide an emissions certificate, which I’m obviously not able to do.
The daft thing is if I find an identical vehicle and put its registration in it says it’s ok.
Any ideas?

Hi,

I have a 2006 3.0l petrol alphard, converted this year which qualified for a critique Air 2 certificate for France and is ULEZ compliant in the UK. I only had to input my Reg no. into the official Gov Web site for confirmation so I can't understand why a hybrid wouldn't sail through!!!!
