So i have some sort of upgrade radio 

Jdm alpine vie-x088.  

Now is the attempt to load ue maps to this unit but struggling to get some time as the summer came doing catching up work on house. Anyone attempt anything or just give up and fitted any other unit?

Hi I Kristoff, I know it's been two.years but I've just seen your post and wondered if you had any success in updating the maps?

 

I have the same head unit and am also wondering if.it.is possible.

I'm not sure a simple map update would be of much use. 

I believe the hardware is not setup to receive the frequencies of the European gps, vs the qzss frequency of Japanese satellites

I agree with Chris,

 

If your unit is OEM, or suitable for Japan, the unit will search for certain satellites and never find them.

Thanks both, I'll look to see if I can get a phone connected via the external input and use it that way  or otherwise will look replacement unit.
