Hi Can anyone tell me if our 2.4 Alphard 2007 has a belt or a chain please? Our son just had a belt fail on his Citroen and now we're worried. Hopefully our lovely car has a chain!

Geralt is correct.

For the benefit of V6 owners; it it only the 3 litre V6 that has a belt (not the 3.5).

However, the engine is a non interference design . So what ?

If the belt breaks on a non interference engine the valves will not hit the pistons and wreck the engine.

You will break down, and you will need a new belt and need to get it fitted and timed correctly.

The above is not true if the engine 'drops' a valve.

Either way, if you have a V6  get the cam belt changed, if needed, or risk a stranding.

Hi. My 2008 (AH20) Vellfire 2.4 has a timing chain. I'm pretty certain all the 2.4 models have them?

Just a small point.

Generally speaking.

Chains don't last forever, despite some Toyota engines doing so.

Chain tensioners tend to have a shorter life than chains and engines.

I need to research whether the 2.4 litre engine is a non interference design.
