Big difference in fuel consumption between Pioneer i & ii

Hello Campervaners,

We are thinking to replace our Diesel Toyota Rav4 (we live in a ULEZ zone) and buy a Toyota Alphard Hybrid Pioneer i or ii conversion Campervan.

How do you find it to drive as an only vehicle in a city? And Country roads? 

Is there a big difference in the fuel consumption between Toyota Alphard Hybrid Pioneer i & ii ? 

What are the advantages of spending approx £10,000 more on a newer model?

Hi Nicola, I may be proved wrong but I don't think these are ULEZ compliant, they meet all the conditions but as they are imported Japanese domestic they aren't recognized by the DVLA.

Make sure to check before you buy!

Is the vehicle already in the UK ?

Has it been registered by the DVLA.

If so, type the registration number into Transport for London (TfL).

That should tell you.

 

I think, as it is post Sept 2005, it should be ULEZ; whether it is recognised as such is another matter,

I think the later ones are ULEZ approved, but still have to pay congestion charge.

My 2007 Hybrid is ULEZ compliant. I went to the DVLA website and put in my registration # and it said mine was compliant. Also I am getting 35 - 40 mpg. I have never heard of Alphard Pioneer, enlighten us.

Many people confuse the Congestion Charge and ULEZ.

The Congestion Charge only applies to Inner London.

The ULEZ area is much more widespread.

I haven't either.

I had assumed it was/is a Japanese conversion.

All Alphards from 2006 petrol and hybrid are ULEZ compliant. As for Pioneer, I think it's just the way a particular campervan conversion company I was looking at described the Alphard Hybrid, as an Eco Pioneer i or ii, ie first or second generation. 

 

I'm now looking at a Alphard Hybrid 2013 to be professionally converted by a well know company in Kent. How do we know if the Hybrid battery is sound?

Its only got 34,000 miles on the clock so am I worrying about nothing? How much are they to eventually replace and is after the vehicle is around 15 years old or sooner?

Don't want to incite any jinx but my HV battery is 2004 and spot on.

Rather expensive to replace, but they can be repaired at reasonable cost. 🙏
