Hi everyone,

Had my Alphard since September. It has 97000 miles and no written proof of it being done in the extensive service history paperwork.I have read and watched youtubes videos about the subject.Concensus seems to be that flushing is a bad idea as it can cause issues with moving debri inside the narrow gearbox channels resulting in major issues. The other view is its ok to do a fluid change as you never get all the fluid out as converter is still full.as you are only replacing 50 % of fluid then thats a safer way of doing it.Whats everyones views on it,would be grateful for any opinions

Personally, I drained as much as I could (about 4 litres) , removed the sump pan , replaced the filter and refitted /refilled. A week later I drained again and refilled.

@cookie9561 did you go ahead and get this service done ? Did you use a Garage or DIY ? I've also been trying to get answers to this question in my separate thread here, to no avail. Like you I have no written proof of it ever being done on my car.

I'm surprised this topic isn't talked about more on this forum, given the importance of it, particularly on the  2AZ-FE engine.

DURING MY PERIOD many years ago AS a master craftsman mechanic with a speciality in overhauling hydraulic auto transmissions,  changing the transmission fluid was never considered a priority, indeed it could only be carried out successfully if the 'fluid Torque' convertor had a drain screw plug built into it and one processed the very expensive special drainage suction pump...

I plan to get mine done next service, as no idea when it was last done.  Anyone that says auto gearboxes are sealed for life are jokers lol.

I think the general consensus is to get as much oil out as possible (removing the sump etc, replacing the filter) then pump in new to the correct level.  My mate looks after mine though and pretty sure he has an airline driven pump for replacing gearbox oil.

I know on some Mercs it's important to also ensure the torque converter is drained as that holds a load (and is often forgotten about) but my knowledge on the Toyota boxes is pretty limited!
