Hoping this forum with clear up the conflicting information i seem to be finding online.

I have owned a 2008 Vellfire 3.5 AWD for 2 years now and am planning a run to the south of France over the Christmas period. We will be trying to do this journey in one go so would like as fewer stops as possible. The fuel tank size on my car is 58ltres.

I have been led to believe that the Alphard and Vellfire are broadly the same model with slightly differing interiors and body work but I'm finding information suggesting the fuel tanks are larger on other models.

Would anyone be able to confirm this.

Thanks Ash

Hello Ash,

Welcome to the Forum.

The Aplhard and Vellfire are essentially the same vehicle.

The Gen 1 Alphards have a 70 litre full tank. I am unsure about the hybrid versions.

I have read in this forum that the Gen2 tank is 60 litres.

Are the tanks any bigger on the hybrid models??

Also has anyone tried to fit a larger tank of another model or aftermarket?

Hi Lilash,

maybe I'll cross you on the road to South of France for Christmas ^^

Anyway, I've got a 2009 3.5 FWD, my Japanese documentation talks about 55 & 58L versions (and I should have a 58 if I understand correctly the doc), but in fact it seems I have more like 55L.

You could check on EPC data, but I'm sure there's not difference between an Alphard and a Vellfire for the fuel tank.

I doubt any other fuel tank will fit.

Space is pretty tight everywhere in these machines.

Hi

i have a 2008 Alphard in the original Japanese service book and the translated version it states 65L fuel tank

Toyota has quite a generous 'reserve' amount of around 10litres.

The needle/warning light is calibrated for 50 litres.

You can see this via the obd2 data, the remainder of the tank is reserve and fuel filter and evap system.
