Is Towfar Legal if no VIN?

I'm looking to import an Alphard via a recognised dealer.  The vehicle is to replace a Skoda Octavia which I use to tow a caravan.  Today I read a discussion on a Caravan forum stating that towing with an Alphard in the UK is illegal as imports have no maximum permitted towing weight indicated becuse imports from Japan do not have VIN plates to indicate the maximum weight.  I've also read similar comments on a forum for Skoda towcars - apparently thre is variety even within model ranges with some VINs specifiying 0kg towing capacity.

Has anyone within the Forum come across this issue, and has anyone come up with a resolution?
