Hi Roger, found the brightness sliders today, both set in the middle, as you said, it is better but not greatest in bright sunlight as today

Edit, have ordered an english language owners manual/handbook from Amazon, and a GPS speedometer, importer has converte KMH to mph, but it is reading well above actual speed

If your wheels and tyre combination are NOT to OEM sizes your speedo and odometer will be inaccurate.

Try willtheyfit, or something similar, as you can check errors 'magnitude' with non-standard tyre wheel combinations.

Thanks Roger, it has factory wheels, i have the GPS speedometer now, and it pretty much agrees with the speedo on the Alphard, so i think the GPS speed readout i was using which is part of MY Digtal OS mapping ( Memory Map )to check the Alphard, is actually not to accurate. fortunately the GPS speedo i bought has other functions, ie clock, compass overspeed warning, trip mileage and prob others i haven't found yet

One other niggle is the fairly constant chatter from a female Japanese voice, and the constant beeping, can either of these be turned off or disconnected

I think in Toyota Techstream you can turn off beeps, or at least change them.

Techstream is free, but you will need the correct cables.

Search the Forum for tips on which cables to buy.

I thought the Japanese lady was turned off via the stereo menus?  There isn't much that can be customised via techstream for the Gen 1.

Any ideas how to turn off the ladys voice in stereo menus, it's the more irritating of the 2 issues

Quick update, the dealer has now fitted this box, it is just a generic Android/Apple Car Play box, it expands the radio, but still has the japanese Frequency range 76-90 so you have no idea what actual frequency you have, its a guess to what programme you have, it's also impossible to navigate, it works through the TV button, so i have lost my Aux input, all in all a disaster

Hi Chris. That's for the etc card for Japanese motorways. Mine was in the cool box between the seats. I removed it as its unnecessary. I've just managed to connect my phone to the Bluetooth but it only seems to work with the phone app and doesn't connect to play music or anything else. I'd quite like to connect some rcd cables to the rear of the unit for audio input from my phone but from photos I've seen there doesn't seem to be any rcd connections in the back of the unit. Where did you plug in your rcd cables? Cheers

By RCD do you Mean RCA, my Alphard has the theatre system with the 7 speakers and rear roof screen, on the back of the centre console bettween the front seats their are 3 RCA sockets, yellow for video, and red and white for audio, if you get a lead with 2 RCA plugs on one end and a 3.5mm jack plug on the other, plug the RCAs into red and white on back of cosole, and 3.5 mm into a music player, or headphone socket of a phone with one and music on it on sd card or internet radio/Spotify etc, then press the TV button on the head unit, whatever is playing on the music player/phone will now play on head unit, was that what you were asking

Thanks Chris.

Yes, apologies. RCA connections. Yep, I've also got one with the theatre system although the rear roof screen was removed to fit a poptop roof. I found the rca connections as you said and it works! Brilliant. So simple! I was worried I would have take off the head unit to find suitable connections. I think I'll now get a Bluetooth device that connects to rca and then I won't even have to use the cables. Thanks a lot!

Hi, and thanks to all who’ve posted on here. I’m just discovering how the audio ( yes, and video) work on my recently purchased 2006 Alphard. I’ll likely be back with some questions once I’ve had a look around and discovered what is obvious. It was a couple of weeks until I managed to open the head unit for access to CD player (with another port for an SD card like on my old camera). I’ll now have a scout round for RCA connections.
I, too, have drop down screen in rear and remote control. Nothing happens yet ( but remote turns it on). Will fiddle for a while and…..likely be back to pick your brains!
