Oh wow that's beautiful gear mate, in the end I was able to fit a 800rms 2 channel under the passenger seat and a 100rms x 4 under the drivers.

Just need to find the time to build the sub box. To be honest it sounds awesome just with the JBL 6x9 front and 6.5 rear.

Any other members have a sound system install on the go?

  • 8 months later...

I have a 2013 Toyota Vellfire Gazoo Sport Edition model with factory 18 speaker system.   I removed the original headunit and installed an Android unit I bought from Aliexpress.  The sound is lacking power due to the audio being powered by the original toyota amplifier under the passenger seat.  I also installed an under seat subwoofer from Cerwin Vega, this gives the car the extra bass boost.  I am planning to replace the roof screen to Android as well.  Overall it sounds great if you don't need it to play extremely loud.  I am happy with it.IMG-20250511-WA0004.thumb.jpeg.1ecb59d69e3a11dfd310ef998efe671d.jpegScreenshot_20250511_141241_AmazonShopping.thumb.jpg.b7aec665482ec12e4c7574834f85d904.jpg

How do you find the Android unit from AliExpress, no saving the time issues? I used there 10.1" Facia it needed a small massage but over all great 😁

Cerwin Vega is a wicked brand I've used a range of there speakers over the years and still use my old XL15s from an old car system now in my home Cinema. If you do end up upgrading your speakers i can confirm after a tweak the 3.5" two ways fit in the dash corners.

The android unit is great.  I would like to upgrade the speakers next.

I have just added a pair of Audison AP690 Prima to the front doors powered by a Focal Impulse 4.320 Amp.  A pair of Focal IS TOY 165 will be install in middle sliding doors by end of this week.20250519_100119.thumb.jpg.077f83bfa0158ebd4895f6a9ccc43ed2.jpgIMG-20250519-WA0018.thumb.jpeg.bde06b19c7681315894ea2caac0e0cba.jpeg

Hi Sajeev how are they sounding? Are they well priced in the UK?

Focal PS 165 F3E 3 Way component's or Infinity Perfect900 are on my Lotto winning list 😂

They sound amazing.  They are reasonably priced in UK.  Online is cheaper than buying from installers.

Where does the APX 4 fit? Is it for the rear third row?

  • 1 month later...

On the 20 series Vellfire Alphard with the factory multi speaker setup, the original Toyota amp under the passenger seat is doing a lot of the heavy lifting and the Android head unit usually only feeds it a low level signal (often with questionable pre out voltage and EQ). That is why it can end up sounding a bit flat and underpowered once the OEM head unit is gone.

Re the APX 4 question, that is a 4 channel amp, so it is normally used to run either:

1. Front left right plus rear left right (most common if you are bypassing the Toyota amp for the main cabin speakers)

2. Front active setup (tweeters and mids separately) if you are doing DSP and active crossover

3. Rear section only, for example sliding doors plus third row, if you keep the fronts on a different amp Physically, people tend to mount a small 4 channel either behind the glovebox passenger side (as Shx82 mentioned), under a seat, or in the rear quarter boot trim.

There is no fixed location from Toyota, it depends on wiring route and heat space. If your question is specifically whether it is meant just for the third row, not necessarily. It is just four channels, so you choose which four speaker feeds you want it to take over. Practical next step is to decide if you are keeping the factory amp for some speakers or doing a proper bypass.

Mixing can work, but the tradeoff is tuning headaches because the Toyota amp may have built in EQ and crossovers that do not match your new speakers. If you can share which speakers you still have on the Toyota amp and which are on the Focal Impulse, plus whether the Android unit has proper RCA pre outs, people can suggest the cleanest wiring approach. Let us know what you have planned for the rear and third row and if you want to retain factory fade balance and steering controls.

:) )

@Sajeev,

that's brilliant you're getting stuck into the sound system upgrade! It's always a bit of a journey figuring out where everything goes in these vans, isn't it? So, for the Focal IS TOY 165s in the sliding doors, are you running them off the same Focal Impulse amp, or will they need a separate one? Just curious how you're planning to power them all!

Looking forward to hearing how it all sounds when it's finished.
