Hi there

 

In the summer I'm currently averaging 12km/l and in the winter (canada) that can go as low as 9. I'm thinking of replacing my hybrid battery, but before I do I'm wondering if anyone here has done the same and documented the improvement in km/l. Is 12km/l low for this model? 

 

I'm not getting an error code to replace the hybrid battery, but it's not keeping a 3 bar charge for very long.

 

Even if you haven't replaced your hybrid batter please feel free to list your model year and summer km/l numbers. I'd like to know how mine is fairing in comparison.

Have you looked into doing a battery refresh? Basically the battery is very slowly charged above normal and then slowly discharged, before repeating. 

 

Very common on Prius, and many other hybrids. I did it a few years ago on a Honda CRZ and got a huge amount of battery capacity back.

I have a 2003 hybrid camper conversion with about 80000km under it's belt. 12km/l is similar to what I have achieved recently when driving about unladen on mostly motorway journeys. I tend to stick at about 60mph (100kmh) on the motorway.

Hi,

I have a 2003 model with 86,000 miles (approx 137K km), in summer I get high 30's mpg and (around 14km/l) and on long runs and fairly loaded, can do even better. Winter is low 30's mpg (say 11 km/l), but we do not have anything like your cold winters in SE England! I do drive fairly sedately (not that there is any choice!), but am happy to exceed 60mph on motorways when I can still maintain good fuel economy. It does hold 3 bars most of the time and on rare occasions reaches 4 bars. There are companies in the UK that can replace individual failed cells in the hybrid battery, which is a far cheaper option than full replacement. Interestingly the company I found advertised on Ebay and were of the opinion my battery was fine (thankfully!). You may find companies offering similar services in Canada, if the suggestions already made do not work for you. Good Luck.

This las Thursday I drove 520 miles back from Scotland since my last fill up. A75, M6, M6 Toll, M42, M40,  70 - 75mph except where limited in road works, A3400, then A34, A272, then country roads on 61 Litres of E10. Just over 38 miles to the gallon, okay I thought

That is really good compared to my experience of 35 mpg on the motorway and I tend to stick to 60mph on cruise. I think I need to get my act together and do a refresh on my battery to see if that improves it. Sadly, as I don't have the original stereo fitted I have no idea how well the battery is performing.

My Hybrid runs at showing 3 green bars most of the time and only shows 4 bars if i am going down a long hill foot braking steadily, the regenerating power fills the power bank to capacity. Then at the bottom of hill the engine cuts out and one is driving on the batteries until one gets to the 3 bars again and the engine kicks in.

The Hybrid battery system never fully charges the battery during general driving so there is spare capacity for regeneration braking. This also keeps the battery temp down as the inner cells of the pack are prone to overheat and fail as I have found out.
