No. I'm going to wire my headlights up to my ignition. Engine on lights on, engine off lights off. 

Not sure if this is sucking eggs but have you turned the light switch on the column stalk all the way as this is "Auto" and  the symbol doesn't show- turn back one click and this puts the lights on all the time and the symbol shows.

Yea, tried it. My MR2 is the same but it has an audible alarm when i open the door. 

What problem are you trying to solve?  If I leave the lights on and open the door I get a warning buzzer.
