My Mum will be picking up a lovely low mileage 2009 AH20 3.5L in the next week or two, it's a fresh import so comes with the stock headunit. As Mum's not a fluent Japanese speaker, more accurately, couldn't read or speak a word of it if her very life depended on it, so I'm looking for an aftermarket soloution.

Ideally Android based to use Google maps, DAB and must have camera inputs for the stock reverse camera. It's got the multi speaker (12?) option, does anyone know if they are run via an amp or direct from the head unit? Any info on this part of the system would be much appreciated.

Do you have sunroof? If so, check roof lining for 6 speakers, 2 at rear row and 4 between driver and mid row.

If so, you have the 18 Speaker system that has a 16 channel amplifier under passenger seat.

Does it only have rear camera? No front or side one?

Do you have roof mounted monitor?

Fyi a 3.5l is actual MODEL GGH20.

Thanks Chris; Yes to sunroof, manual front and auto middle.

18, that's the magic number! I mis-remembered from an options brochure.

Only rear camera; Mum has a Nissan Leaf and she loves the 360 camera function so that will be something I attempt in some form.

Yes it does have the roof monitor, iirc the remote for it was a Panasonic?

GGH20, got it, thanks, might make the searches I'm doing more accurate.

18 speaker system will have an amplifier that requires a 'MOST' adaptor to convert the output from most android units to a digital signal (some sellers call this an optical box, which it isn't)

The roof monitor can be controlled from the headunit, it also has audio fed from the amplifier, which can make some setups difficult, the screen itself has a motorised  flip, which is a signal from the headunit, so it worst case, you could wire a switch to operate it, although the resolution and screen size is poor, so maybe you'd upgrade this to a standalone unit?

The rear only camera is simpler to connect, it does use a 6v supply, but converters exist that provide 6v from the standard 12v wiring.

Again, you may be better buying a system that has 360 cameras in the kit, as these will offer a higher quality image.

Thanks again Chris, I've been looking around and AliExpress has a plethora of options, one includes a 360 camera kit, the biggest issue is the absolute clusterfudge that is the pricing and countless configurations that sellers on AE use.

I have seen a lot of referrence to optical boxes, is this infact the 'MOST' adaptor by another name?

Mum's saying she's not bothered with a fancy stereo or the 'TV' in the back but if I can get iplayer and the like on it then I think that'd blow her mind lol. Even enabling her to plug her laptop in would be a big plus.

Hey! Thanks for the info, i'm in the same boat as op, just won a bid on my Alphard (09 350s Prime). I'm looking around and seeing a ton of options, even different sized clips, etc. They don't make it very precise. Does anyone know of an actually full kit that has actually installed it in their own vehicle and can link to the right one?

Same as before, you need to know if you have the 18, 11 or 8 sis speaker system first.

You also have choice of a 'Tesla' style unit, a retrofit 30 series style, a retrofit 40 series style, or standard 8" style.

You can spend from £180 to £1000.

Some come with the entire surround including the section where the gear select lever is.

Some replace the climate control with a touch screen.

Some include physical volume and selection buttons etc etc etc.
