starider Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Hi, my Alphard has just developed a problem, the engine warning light comes on after driving for several miles, the temperature gauge shows normal. When I stop for a period of time and start again the light does not come on again for some time. The only fault I can find is that the expansion tank had been over filled. Both cooling fans are working as they should.Oil was changed recently and is at the recommended level. I can't find any other problem.Any ideas would be appreciated.
Picasso Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Hello you will need to get the codes read to see if you have any fault codes
starider Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Hi Picasso, is it possible to purchase a suitable reader for the Alphard? I am of the "old school" of motor engineers when cars had few if any sensors. The tuning/ testing equipment I have is steam powered by todays standards!! Many thanks for your interest.
starider Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Hi again, just had a thought,is there a dip stick for the transmission oil?
Picasso Posted September 17 Posted September 17 There should be a dip stick there is one on my 3.0 I'm sure some one will be able to tell you where it is
Picasso Posted September 17 Posted September 17 The AncelJP700 will read codes if engine light on but if you want to do a full diagnostic with out the light on you will need techstream software
starider Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 Hi, found the transmission dip stick,it's just below the heater intake pipe with a RED tipped dip stick. Quite long and needs carefully pushing back in.
starider Posted October 11 Author Posted October 11 Hi Lee, Thanks for your help,I purchased the correct sensor and everything then worked fine, until I used the kick down at which point the engine light came on. Stopped for a few minutes started again engine light went out and remained out until once again I asked for extra power, light came on. Within the last three days went upto a caravan dealers near Burnham on Sea. Towed all the way there and towed new caravan back and managed to drive without asking for extra power,no light at all. The Alphard has developed a rattle in the exhaust system which seems to be coming from the Cat. The whole system looks rather delicate so I am looking to replace the lot.Any ideas where I might get a reasonable deal? Many thanks, Tony.
