My 2011 Alphard/Vellfire has just failed the MOT due to a leaking rear shock. Does anyone know the best place to get new shocks as it seems they have to be imported from Japan which takes 5 or 6 weeks ?

Try one of the many AutoFactors. Many years ago I had a Mk2 Estima and someone in Japan had tried to lower the Estima to the road. I changed all the suspension and struts to original Spec and had no difficulty obtaining what I needed

Hello Bryn,

Do you have the optional electrical alterable shock settings as an option as my MZ does; an earlier model than yours

If so, as I have read, they can be horribly expensive.

I believe Picasso restored his normal shocks (and springs ?) to OEM; the cost was about £1200.

Send him a PM or search the forum for details (it's in here somewhere). Perhaps just search his 'entries'.

The search box is on your home page.

Good luck.

Hi. No the shocks that I have bought are from Toyota are just ordinary shocks. I looked at the source recommended by Picasso but after postage and import duty there was not much difference in the cost (£150 the pair) and with a Toyota garage you are unlikely to get a 'knock -off'. The MZ situation sounds very problematic but not as expensive as a Porsche etc

I just replaced an air-ride shock on my Jaguar. OUCH.

Makes Lee's £1200 look cheap !
