Tei Posted Saturday at 04:40 PM Posted Saturday at 04:40 PM (edited) I have opportunity to buy 2005 Alphard, 113000 miles, but checking MOT history I see that every MOT there were fails and loads of advisories. Owner claims car is running fine and is reliable. Regretfully I know almost nothing about cars... therefore I would be really grateful if you guys could have a look and express your opinions. (you need to click few times on image to bring it to full size on screen) Should I buy or should I stay away from this one? Edited Saturday at 09:17 PM by Tei
Rojie Posted Saturday at 05:09 PM Posted Saturday at 05:09 PM Hello Tei, We cannot read any of this history. What is the registration of the vehicle ?
Tei Posted Saturday at 09:03 PM Author Posted Saturday at 09:03 PM Will send registration via PM (not sure if it's ok to expose someones registration to public) Weird that you cant see that, but maybe some browsers don't allow zoom in. I will try to add smaller images in first post, that should help othser's to see withouit need to zoom in, i hope.
Catweazle Posted Saturday at 09:03 PM Posted Saturday at 09:03 PM You can read it if you click on the image... Slightly worrying that no one seems to know if it's miles or kilometres though Looks like all the main work has been done to be fair, but it would have to be cheap for me to consider it....you can get a fresh import for around 10-11 grand that will be almost immaculate.

Yes, price is under 4 grand, and it have pop up roof installed. You say most work is being done. I am paranoid thinking that maybe some 'friendly' garage paseed MOT with hiding previous advisories? Catweazle Posted Saturday at 10:43 PM Posted Saturday at 10:43 PM You have to go with your gut... If at all in doubt, you're probably best avoiding it. Looks like it's been sat about between Mot's quite a bit based on the mileage. Do you have the time, money, garage facilities and inclination to do any likely work?
Rojie Posted Sunday at 07:44 AM Posted Sunday at 07:44 AM My reaction is to look for another. Some garages are excessively strict, (does it impress the DVLA), but the history could be more 'caring'. 120k is a lot of miles, but it is a Toyota. You will also need someone competent to work on it, if needed. As it is a hybrid, I would be worried about replacement battery cost, and where to have that work performed. Read Michael Brown's thread regarding battery cost. Based on what I have read about early Hybrids, I would not buy it. You ought to be able to get a Gen 1 facelift for not much more budget, albeit without a pop top. Good Luck, whatever you decide
Picasso Posted Sunday at 11:20 AM Posted Sunday at 11:20 AM I agree with Roger steer clear of this one will cost you lot more in long run regarding a point on the mot corrosion does not sound like it was properly under sealed .
Tei Posted Sunday at 12:38 PM Author Posted Sunday at 12:38 PM Ok, thanks very much guys for your pointers. Looking for another ;)
