My 3 litre petrol automatic is not changing up into 5th gear even when cruising on the flat. My local garage near Penzance Cornwall cannot fix it. I suggested it could be that we haven't changed the transmission fluid in a while, but they thought that was unlikely to be the problem. I've tried an automatic transmission specialist in Penryn and they say they can't get parts for it. It is an import with a 57 plate. Can anyone recommend a solution or a mechanic who's dealt with this kind of problem?

Thanks, Chris Hunneyball.

Hello Chris,

Welcome to the Forum.

Have you tried Dyernostics in Bodmin ?

Worth a call. He is a qualified Toyota technician.

He may do autos, or know someone that does.

Silly question, but you do have the gear shift in the correct position !

Not to the right when in D.

Hi i have taken my 3ltr alphie to renoult, pergeot and citroen garage on the Portreath road from Redruth, they did my service, changed the cam belt and water pump and very reasonable. save you the treck to Bodmin.  best of luck

I have lived near PZ twice !

Perranuthnoe and Botallack.

It just occurred to me that around those lanes, you may not even have be travelling fast enough to get into 5th.

It is quick a high ratio, almost an overdrive.

As it is still driveable a phone call to Redruth seems a good plan.

I suggest you send Derek a Private Message requesting the details.

Thanks Rojie be happy to help Chris out, d is 5th or overdrive if you like. Going round 'country lanes is no problem, if you would like to get in touch Chris be more than happy to help out.
