twcut Posted Thursday at 04:56 PM Posted Thursday at 04:56 PM Hey all During an attempt to swap a head unit over I have shorted something out. My wife is going to kill me in my sleep. Or maybe even while I’m awake? Power was turned on mid swap. There was a quiet fizzle, and a smell. The speedo, rev counter, gear select on the instrument cluster is dead. Lit, but no movement. I cannot open the slide doors unless the van is off. I started checking fuses earlier and have had to pause until tomorrow. The 10a fuses for the cluster seem fine. Any thoughts out there on first things to check? Thank you. I hope I make it through the night
twcut Posted Thursday at 04:58 PM Author Posted Thursday at 04:58 PM To add - I put the old head unit back in and cancelled the swap. The head unit does not work either.

twcut Posted Thursday at 09:54 PM Author Posted Thursday at 09:54 PM @Chris.ac Is this true?? I’m in Heavitree - Any chance we can say hello somewhere? I’m happy to travel to you with whatever bribes are necessary
Voodoo101 Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM There are 3 fuse boxes. I fitted a head unit and it had a short inside while I was driving. I had some of your problems when that happened. The gear selector indicator is on a fuse in the passenger footwell. You will also notice that there is no beep and even if you get the head unit working, there will be no reversing camera. That is all controlled by the gear selector fuse, which is why the doors wont open. it does not know if it is in park or not. The fuse for the head unit is in the engine bay fuse box if I remember rightly. My guess is that there are other fuses that have blown at the same time. Also check your alternator after. Mine packed up at the same time. A recon unit is available on ebay if that is the case. Rule number 1 when fitting a head unit. Disconnect the battery lol
twcut Posted yesterday at 06:09 AM Author Posted yesterday at 06:09 AM Ah thanks very much! I’m going to spend today checking the fuses and will text the alternator as well. and yeah. My brother said the same thing about the battery… rookie mistake
