To answer my own question (having done a bit more research) it would appear the easy way to tell is there will be a black sensor on the negative Terminal of the battery instead of a straight forward connector. The other interesting fact is, apparently lithium batteries cannot be used with a smart alternator compatible split relay? Anyone confirm this or otherwise??

Hiya, no if I do it, it's not going to have travel seats so will change the v5 to remove additional seats however if I pay for this conversion (frankly very little difference in cost) it will be compliant rgds Janine 🙂

Hi, can anyone tell me if the seat floor rails themselves are generic ie the same as for example a VW T5 or are they peculiar to toyota?? am looking to add locking mechanisms for my own build and would like to know where to start looking lol

Rojie, am intending to add a RR bed which slides forward on the two rails (yes it has been done, yes theirs was compliant, mine won't need to be as I am not having rear seats once converted). Hi! I'm hoping to board the floor whilst keeping the two long rails. Has anyone done this and if so what insulation did you use - will be adding non slip flooring not carpets, all advice appreciated. Regards Janine

Hi everyone, the first of many questions, having just paid a deposit on the vehicle I am now writing up my project plan for the conversion. So ..... 1) what leisure battery does everyone recommend? 2) what size solar panel? is there a cunning formula for calculating the need? 3) Do you all have a split relay or is this not necessary or a good idea with solar panels? Thanks Nov, they've said I can either transfer the deposit or if I'm not happy when I look at the vehicle I can have a full deposit, the vehicle is en route so I'm happy with that. Thanks for all the other info it's so useful. Looking forward to joining this happy band officially on n September. 😀

Hi everyone, I'm about to be sent an invoice to reserve I HOPE I've asked all the right questions however there are a few things I need some advice on.... 1) I asked about the speedo showing miles and not KM - was told my SPEEDO would show what MPH I was doing, however the odometer would continue reflect the KM the vehicle had covered - is this normal? I'm guessing that switching it from showing KM covered to Miles might be seen as "clocking" but just want to check this is normal? 2) I've read that I should look at getting the battery changed and to have one with bigger terminals? any advice on this ie battery size or part number and what sort of cost should be involved in doing this as I'm guessing I will need to request they do it and pay for it (which I'm happy to do but may use it to mitigate any niggles I find 🙂 3) it's a 4.2 which I'm told has a chain not a cam belt and therefore never needs it changing? is this true???? 4) I've checked the vehicle is a 4B grade, has a BIMTA certificate, will be undersealed, will have a rear fog lamp and comes with 12months warranty and MOT with all advisories dealt with and I'm going to use a pure DAB radio gizmo so the radio will not be messed about with but is there ANYTHING else you guys can think of? thanks so much. Hi, Newbie here, (so possibly daft questions to follow!) I've posted another thread about vehicle specific questions but these are more about the "camper" side of things... Has anyone done their own conversion and if so your thoughts please? Do the seats in an Alphard in it's car format go down to make a flat "bed" at all? (am thinking it would work short term for me to meet my initial needs (house hunting far afield!) Does anyone have a conversion with a more "fixed" single bed? I know they are out there but would be interested in details I'm very short, what's the width of the inside space - could I get a way with a custom made fixed bed that goes across the vehicle? I think the windows have standard "car" glazing as opposed to double glazed motor home type windows, does this cause condensation and prohibitive heating costs (have wild idea I may want to use it in the winter LOL) PLEASE ADD ANYTHING ELSE YOU MIGHT THINK IS USEFUL, OR YOU WISH YOU'D KNOWN OR THOUGHT OF! Hi, I'm considering buying an Alphard to convert to a camper. I'd really appreciate some honest advice about the pros and cons of buying an imported vehicle, and things I should know, things like; Insurance ? Is servicing and maintenance more difficult or costly? Does much on the vehicle require converting to UK and the cost (stereo? Odometer? Anything else?) Are pop tops worth having? Easy to source? Costly? Getting it re classified as a motorhome? The pros as well as the negatives, PLEASE but just anything you found out or wished you'd know! Will start another thread regarding the conversion itself! They look like fabulous vehicles! TIA JANINE
