Hi Michel, as you may have seen through some of my posts, I'm French, living in France (and I got the only ever imported Vellfire here \o/ ) . Short answer : It could damage your engine because you need to inject 30% more fuel when running on E85 than SP95 or 98, and your injectors will probably not be able to achieve this, then you'll get a check engine light with "System too lean" error. So you NEED a kit if you want to run 100% E85, don't do it without. Long answer : So first of all, we don't have any 100% Ethanol (E100), we have E85, which means this fuel CAN contain up to 85% of ethanol (in summer), and a minimum of 65% of ethanol (in winter). Because of this, you need at least injectors 30% bigger than stock ones (for example, I used to drive my Lexus IS300 (2JZ-GE) with Supra's injectors without any kit with 100% E85, and it runs great. On stock injectors, in the best case, you can put a kit with an Ethanol sensor that will adapt the injection timing to the current percentage of ethanol. Last but not least, since fuel prices are going straight up, you can't find 0.70€/liter E85 anymore. You'll find it at 1.1/1.2€ per liter now. I hope it has been helpful

Buy a Mini-VCI from aliexpress/ebay, install techstream on a VM, then connect yourself to your car, program the new key, job done.

As a French, I just checked for you on the government website. Yes, you have to order a "vignette crit'air" if you want to use the highway passing through a ZFE (Zone à Faible Emission = LEZ for you). You can order it in English there : https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/certificat/demande/ext/vehicules By the way, currently there's no automatic verification, but if you got stopped by the police in a ZFE without this (shi**y) thumbnail (sorry I don't know the right word to use for this type of thing), you'll be fined 68€, up to 135€ if you don't pay fast enough. I'm sorry for you you have to come in my shi**y country

Info on the Vellfire front grill
R4v3n replied to justin_n's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
You can find parts in Japan and Malaysia. I honestly don't know if Toyota sold some directly with a Modellista bodykit, I just know some imported Vellfire already got the bodykit, but I don't know if it's genuine or installed by the previous owner. And you can find toys/reduced models of Vellfires with this kit too. -

2008 Vellfire Fuel Economy
R4v3n replied to Alan Singer's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
I was around 11.2l/100km running @140km/h on the cluster for a trip of 2400km with the 3.5l v6, running full SP95-E10. With full E85 (with a kit) it's 13.8l/100km. -
Warning lights and Electric Motor cut out
R4v3n replied to maq's topic in Toyota Alphard (08-15) Technical Guides
Well, I don't own an hybrid version, but I own a prius 3. The japanese message is telling you to check the hybrid system. First thing to verify in this case is the 12v battery voltage, if it's too low for the computer, it will warn you there's a problem. -
Head Unit Upgrade - Android 12.1 inch "Tesla" Style
R4v3n replied to Damo_Oz's topic in General Chat
Well, I'm sorry if you didn't found this one, but it seems to be full plug & play : https://www.dvdgpsnav.com/blog/toyota-alphard-head-unit-replacement-android-radio-upgrade-navigation-multimedia-system-tesla-style/ -
To open the roof screen it's pretty simple, press the first physical button on the top left of your head unit, the head unit screen will show you the map, press again the same button, now you have top & bottom bars on the display. On the top bar you got 2 buttons, the middle one is to allow you to open the roof screen, and the right one is to make the head unit screen black.

Reading Japanese on head unit
R4v3n replied to Chrisw3535's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Sorry, bad expression used. Maybe I should use "side" instead of "part", I think it's a bad "translation" or used from French. -

Thanks for this. I'm already using the speed signal wire for my aftermarklet PIVOT cruise control, but it'll be very great for the BT part. -

I use the media BT in my 2009 with the Japanese head unit. I use it successfully with a Samsung Galaxy S7 and my wife with a Google pixel (I don't remember the gen). It's exactly the same menus as a Prius 3 from 2011 (we got one, so it's pretty easy even in Japanese). I used my knowledge of the prius menu and google translate to find the right spot to add our phones (btw yes, you need to add your phone in the head unit first, before being able to pair with it and play media). And at the moment, the limitation I can see between our EU prius and this Japanese Vellfire is, if you don't enable your BT and pair with the vellfire BEFORE going to the Drive position, then it's dead. You have to pair with it when you press the ignition button or when starting the engine. Japanese law (I guess) forbid to pair with the head unit when you drive. -
Well, I ordered it from blackhawkjapan. Fast delivery. I installed it with the help of the english install doc and some help from the Pivot Japan support by email. They are VERY fast to answer and they give you the good information in the adapted form (plan, annotated diagram, picture ...). And it works perfectly with my Toyota Cruise Control lever. I'm able to cruise at 140km/h on the cluster (135/136 in reality with GPS). The only "tricky" part in my opinion is the Speed Signal wire, behing the audio head unit. It seems there's a version with a 5P connector, but I don't have this one. Instead I took a picture of all my connectors and they sent me the information of the right wire on a 16P connector from my picture. So it's not cheap, but it works and it's easier than finding the HEX value in a ECU dump, because I can't find anybody with a Damos file for JDM Alphard/Vellfire.

It's 85% ethanol. (In reality, it's more like 85% ethanol in summer and 65% ethanol in winter, with inter-seasons adjusting levels). And with E85 you are around 100-106 Octane. Beside I'm a drifter (so pretty great to cool the turbo engine), E85 is way cheaper than any other fuel here. It's something like 50% or a bit more cheaper than regular.
-
Well economy is a question of price for 100km (or for 60 miles in your case). And fuel price is a question of taxes. Ecology is another problem. E85 is emitting way less co² than any other fuel, but is emitting a bit more HC than regular (but it's still nothing compared to diesel). BTW, E85 is very interesting for racing thanks to his burning temperature and his knock resistance.
-
Thankfully ? I must miss something here ! If you can tell me in PM why, I'm curious.
-
And you don't have E85 in UK, right ?
-
Oh ok, I understand so. Living in France, the majority of our highways are limited to 81 mph, so consumption is way higher.
