Hi Roger no it’s a permanent item, we had it fitted when we had the van converted. It’s deemed a more draught  proof way of fixing the awning to the van.

if you need further information, I think I still have the link to YouTube which shows how to use the Crail with an awning.

Hi, 

we have a small c-rail fitted to the roof of the Alphard to which the drive away kit slides into.

The awning also has straps that will go over the top of the van and attach via pegs in the ground. 
 

also think they have a magnetic system that attaches to the roof.
