Electric or gas?
Hello Alan. I have a side conversion with single induction hob, 600W microwave, running off the Alphard 100V circuit (Campervans Scotland Hybrid conversion). Plus a 12V fridge running off the leisure battery. A good bank of lithium batteries plus a solar panel would be preferable to power the electrics as Hybrid needs the engine on for topping up. We have mains hookup but never used it as we don't stop at camp sites. Our previous camper had a twin gas burner which we liked but of course gas runs out! Good luck with whatever you choose. Check out YouTube e.g. Vandemonium channel (DIY electrics). Lots of advice on there

Alphard insurance
Bodkin Try https://www.ripeinsurance.co.uk/motorhome-insurance/ My Safeguard quote was double this year following my claim. Ripe did a first year discount and it cost £390. Good hunting.

Alphard insurance
Caution! I have an ongoing claim, started Oct 13 2023. I'm using Safeguard (part of Swinton), and yes, Highway Insurance is also the underwriter. Good price c£325 with 2 years no claims and £100 excess. LV have been completely hopeless. Firstly, they asked me for recommended campervan repairers(!!), then picked a local firm but omitted to mention they changed their mind and went for one 40 miles away. The repairer refused to pick up my Alphard (too far), so I called LV and they arranged it on Nov 10 2023, but far too early, as the spares have yet to get there, and are not due until 19 Jan. The repairer then helpfully told me the spares (the pop top roof in this case) are not standard Toyota (yes, it's a specialist van people!). Certainly using a campervan broker you would expect some related knowledge by the underwriter during the claim process. I'll be researching better underwriters.

2008 Toyota Alphard E - four Hybrid AWD
12v socket device - that's a good solution. Also USB port if you need it. Mine works a treat via the radio.

Turning off warning tones
Pushing the key into the ignition (without turning) with a door open - bong-bong-bong etc. Turn on engine, stops tones. Are these able to be turned off? Opening sliding door beep-beep-beep. Now using manual which is fairly easy - so that fixes that. I know these are safety features, but very annoying!
