Hi Chris, I am in NI and they have recently changed the rules. I have down loaded their guidance book and it has changed from my last mot. They are different from English mot rules in that they require dual display. I put sticker over mine and initially the did not accept it but I pointed out to them that their rules did not specify where the stickers would go. So they had to pass it. Oh and also their booklet precludes the use of a digital GPS speedo,

    Thanks

    Gerry

Hi Gerry i went back to the test centre at Mallusk today and got talking to one of the testers and explained my issue i said that i was advised to just get stickers, by the guy who failed me on Saturday, he said yep we get imports in all the time with stickers and we pass them event thought they look absolutely rubbish. By the way where did you get the  link to their booklet. on the infrastructure site?

  2. Guys many thanks for all you replies, and suggestions i found on the DVA website for Northern Ireland the Speedometer  must display  miles and kilometres, even thought it has passed the previous three occasions, i would love to take it elsewhere to get tested but  but regular garages do do testing here in NI its all done by a government agency  so no matter what test centre i go to they will look to see if it is fixed.  i think i will do belt and braces and get some stickers plus a gps digital display and hopefully that will satisfy the jobs worth.

    Many thanks again guys

  3. Hi Guys its been a while since i posted as my Alphy is running sweet she is a 2007  AH10 went for its third MOT in  NI yesterday and she failed as the speedo is not showing  dual display of miles and kilometres, even thought it has passed the past two MOTs her in NI at standard test centres,  the guy was vague and said i could get stickers  for the display, but i thought the instrument cluster was a sealed unit so how would i  place them, or has anyone had a similar problem and got a successful  solution.

So i'm looking contacts for someone to provide me with the part. If it helps and there are any local suppliers  known of between, Fishguard, Cardiff, Bristol, Plymouth and i could maybe stretch to. Bournemouth areas in September when we are touring.

    Cheers in advance

  5. Guys many thanks for all the helpful suggestions  Chris .ac  you are probably right re the initial low reading.

Picasso I'm looking at options for either fitting the low coolant level or an  Aussie device  re engine temp that can connect direct to the block  or rocker cover head.

Hi Dezufo,  got back late last night from a trip and I'm hoping that I now have the problem solved  I bought new coolant pipe and replace both lines removing the  silly joints made from plastic which failed me in the first place. so I have done about 500 with no issues so far.

I would be very interested  in fitting a digital temp gauge never done that before so any tips and advice would be much appreciated.

  8. Rojie many thanks for the confirmation on the  position of the needle,  and the quick warm up time,  I guess you are right I just need to get my confidence back in the vehicle, I  don't know if the smell I stew result of  coolant residue when the original pipe gave way,  I'm thinking of stripping her down myself just to double check the work carried out, now I have managed to find some  schematics re the  cooling system.  I will keep an eye on it like you said and follow up this post in a couple of days I guess a good  100 mile run  should confirm  the stability of the coolant system.

    Many thanks

  9. Hi Folks Chris here new to the group I recently purchased 3.0  2007  Alphard, which I'm having problems with  one of the heater pipes  blew so got to the nearest garage for repair  however  2 mile from garage car started to over heat brought it back they said it needed a Thermostat  got the thermostat  and they returned the car but I think she is still running hot the car gets up to operating temperature in about 5 minutes tops and the  needle  sits just below the halfway mark, I am not 1005 this is the correct position for it  but I thought it usually sat much lower also   once I have taken the car out for a drive and I stop  she smells hot  especially from the passenger side  wheel arch  where a lot of the pipework is placed I believe.  could any of you good folk  confirm the position of the needle and  should I be smelling the heat.  is there any way to tell if  she has not been bled properly.

    many thanks in advance

    Chris
