Hello again Alpharders.
 

I’m gradually getting to grips with the multitude of issues involved in the purchase of an Alphard but I can’t seem to find definitive answers to the following questions:

 

1. The towing capacity off the 3L model and whether this varies between 2 & 4 wheel drive. I want this because I’m planning swapping my current tow car to an Alphard so I can have the best of both worlds. The caravan os 1600kg.

 

2. Road tax. Is it £280 for all in the 2002-2008 model years or does it increase after 1st April 2006?

 

Admins, on other car forums I’ve been a member of many have pinned wikis for frequently asked questions. May I suggest you consider having a similar facility on this forum to save searching through multiple posts?

Hi. I have similar worries about towing having now bought one. 

It appears you should not tow with an Alphard as Toyota never stamped the Vin plate with a weight it is capable of pulling. 

All info I have suggests although capable you could have null insurance if you have an accident. I've written to Toyota and will post if I get any more info.

I hope you get an helpful answer from Toyota, but  I doubt you will.

Their attitude to Grey imports is often somewhat 'hands off'.

 

However, I am hoping that some of our non UK members may be able to help you with an answer; as I believe, the Japanese imports don't have a European style VIN plate.

But other Asian nations may have better 'Vin plates'.

Thanks for the answers. I used to tow with my Toyota Hiace Super Custom and have just asked on my forum https://hiace-super-custom.forumotion.com/  for someone to check that models VIN plate.
