Voodoo101 Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I posted this in general chat, but then thought it may be better in the forum. I have an Android head unit but it seems that all the features do not work properly, mainly to do with reading the canbus, so I removed the unit to check the wiring and I have one connection spare coming from the head unit. This is not really surprising as I have never found a car yet that has the same connections, so it may just be a common adaptor, but I have three wires in the car that I have no idea what they are. I was hoping somebody could identify them. One lead does sort of fit in the spare connector, but is not the same size. Sorry about the fussy pictures, my phone is on its way out.

I guess they convert the communications going back an forth into a format the radio can understand.

Chris.ac Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 We need to get all the original plugs from the wiring looms photographed, and Identified for several loom revisions it seems. Mine is a may 2010, and I believe the loom swapped in September 2010. Some of the headunits have that green GVIF connector, which im not sure if it is a digital video feed in for the hybrid, which on the 20series started in late 2010, early 2011 (the GVIF is video only, and can be used to overlay graphics or video feed) Blue is definitely to do with the 270/360degree cameras, parking assist, sonar overlay (it should connect to the parking assist ecu under passenger seat, but the rear camera is separate feed via another plug. Brown, im still not 100%, it needs connecting to correctly display video at rear, im thinking part of the DTV input - it may have another ecu it connects to that swaps input between dvd and dtv.
arthurj Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 I have a 2012 hybrid and the back of my unit looks like this, apparently - no green port. I think the hybrid info displayed just comes from the canbus, it’s not that detailed.
Voodoo101 Posted August 4, 2022 Author Posted August 4, 2022 I've just purchased a wiring harness from Aliexpress with a canbus. I think the one that came with the head unit is just a standard cable and it has no canbus unit. I've spoken to the seller and he has told me the protocol setting I need. I tried them before but made no difference. This cable has an extra plug to go in the back of the unit. Chris.ac Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 the difficulty is that all the wiring diagrams I can find, all seem to be from the alphards that were export models, they seems to have different sockets to the domestic alphards. its bizarre

I thought all Alphards and Vellfires where imported.

Chris.ac Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 5 hours ago, Rojie said: They are. I think Chris means Domestic, as in Japanese market, and exported, as in all other markets. correct. JDM (Japanese domestic market) vs the models specifically created for export. Toyota started exporting the 20 series, to countries like China, Malaysia, Russia, UAE. These usually have codes like ggh20L or ggh20R (L= left hand drive R=right hand drive) they usually come with options that comply with local legislation, such as in China, the headlights have auto dip, Russia have rear fog lights, China with have smog detector that turns climate control to internal circulation. The headunits are usually dumbed down, they don't feature G book, or telematics, or have English/Russian as a selectable language, the 18 speaker option is rarer, as the wiring looms are standardised, as aftermarket systems are usually fitted. It is why finding JDM versions of the wiring diagrams is hard, these are controlled by a publishing house, in Japan, you are able to buy the maintenance/repair manuals and wiring diagrams on CD ROM and book form as a dealer option. I found some of these manuals and cd ROMs for the ggh20W ATH20W and ANH20W, but I'm not willing to spend upwards of £300 for the set. They are out of print, so it's the 2nd hand market only. Thankfully, the exported versions manuals are available online, and apart from the headunit wiring, everything else seems okay

Do you have any information on what the different connections are for please? l've never seen anything like the 4 individually numbered (1-4) single pin black sockets (top right of your photo) before.

arthurj Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I think those 4 are for Japanese TV, either an aerial or decoder box.

arthurj Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I still have mine, mainly because the kids love watching dvds in the back and it’s great for that.
Laurence Posted March 15 Posted March 15 A lot of connectors shown but none of them appear to be anything like the connectors on the back of my Panasonic 86100-58100 head unit. Most of the connectors are plain white with a couple of grey ones. It's a late 2011 240 Alphard.
Laurence Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I;m mainly looking to identify the speaker cables and if possible, the steering wheel controls. Everything else I can live without. Id be very grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction.
