Get it checked for the fault code(s), the fault could be a simple fix like an 02 sensor or dirty maff, but there are various reasons why the eml comes on, you could get a scanner off ebay/amazon and check for the codes as long as the scanner has the JOBD protocol

Yes a scanner is essential equipment.

The Ancel JP700 JOBD code reader works with my 2003 model for P-codes so I'm sure it will work with yours.

Or take it to your local garage and ask them to plug in their scanner. You don't have to use them to make any repairs needed...

I bought a scanner but it didn’t actually give me the exact problem.

it could of been vacuum leak , o2 sensor or maf .

I took a chance on a second hand maf on eBay for £30 , took 5 minutes to fit , no more engine light .

might be worth removing the maf sensor and giving it a proper clean , I reckon that would actually of fixed my problem, no need to buy a new one .

Mass Air Flow sensor. It's just downstream of the air filter.
