Hi

I wonder if anyone could help please. I have a 2.4 automatic petrol alphard 06 plate. The problem comes after it has been driven for say 20 miles and up to 50-70mph for a while. Once I have slowed and then begin driving again the van jolts with bang from in under like it is trying to find the gear or something. This may occur a few times or more if then going along at low speeds with a lack of some power. It tends to be okay once back up to higher speeds but then will repeat at low speeds. It can be quite a jolt and bang from within! I have just had the CV boot replaced and Diff was greased up as noticed to be dry.

My mechanic who is a toyota specialist advised he would like to remove the transmisson cover renew gasket as first check.

CARRIED OUT DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS AND FULL HEALTH INSPECTION. ITEMS THAT REQUIRE ATTENTION - NOISE FROM TRANSMISSION AREA - ROAD TESTED AND CONFIRMED FAULT. GEARBOX SHIFTS POOR. CHECKED ATF LEVELS - OK. POOR QUALITY AND CONTAMINATION. CHECKED SUSPENSION AND ENGINE MOUNTS/GEARBOX MOUNTS - OK. TORQUED ALL WHEEL NUTS. ADVISE PAN REMOVAL FOR INSPECTION/GEARBOX SERVICE TO START [Gearbox service with new genuine strainer and gasket]

If this is not it he advised it could be the gearbox itself and rebuild etc which would go into big money and only place he knew was the other side of the bridge in Devon :D

Has anyone ever come across a similar problem as it may save us some time and money. I did here something about transmission slippage. Could this be it and what is required to fix that?

Many thanks

Wayno

Hello again, it seems that this problem only comes on after these journeys for 15 -20 mins or so and higher speeds reached. When I go to v low speed it starts to feel a little jumpy and when accelerating away again - BANG/Judder goes the gears like it is having difficulty getting into the next higher gear, (well does it with a thump!). Gonna get the transmission serviced and oild and filter changed as above but if I am barking up the wrong tree please let me know. Just praying to my gods :D that it doesnt need some sort of gearbox rebuild as no way could afford £1000+. cheers Wayno

Sounds like my alphard hybrid... but I have a CVT.  I thought the transmisison was shot.  culprit was the MAF sensor, but it threw a code on mine.
