WelCab Swing Out Disabled Assist Seat (front passenger seat)

Would anyone know how to reset my swing out welcab disability seat. I have had troubles with my battery going flat (not relplaced with a new one), but the disability seat will no longer swing out. The backrest still moves forwards and backwards. When using the buttons on the seat to move the seat forward and backwards I do hear a little click, but nothing happens. When using the remote to swing the chair out and down, nothing happens (battery in remote is new).

 

I read somewhere that the chair needs to be reset as the car battery has been replaced/been flat and that the power windows also may need resetting. Although they do work fine. For the windows I was told to reset following this sequence: 1) open the window by opening drivers window all they way (+hold button 5 sec's), shut all the way (+hold button 5 sec's), open by just "flicking the button once" letting it open completely, followed by "flicking up once" letting is shut completely. THEN 2) do the same with each window (passenger side, back right, back left).  

 

I wanted to try this sequence to see if it perhaps also reset the chair, but as I started with step 1, the window stopped working and stayed half down - stuck. So I retreated with my tail between my legs as I didn't want to create a secondary issue with the electrics.. (luckily when I turned the car off, and then back on the window worked again). 

 

Has anyone else tried this or encountered the same problem. (I realise it may be a burned out motor or something else, but if it just needs a reset, I might be able to do it myself)

No need hold the window switches, just lower the window all the way down at each door then raise it all the way up, no need to flick the switch and no particular sequence for doing them, the reset allows the windows to be open/closed from the drivers door. Have you checked the fuses in passenger side fuse box, No. 19/7.5Amp (Welcab), No. 6/30Amp Power Seat

As Pete says above. The windows are easy to reset, if that is what is needed.

If you have a moon roof, you may need to do the same to reset that.

 

Much to my surprise, there is a section on these seats in the JPNZ manual (Recommended for all Gen 1 owners).

However, there is no mention of Welcab in the text.

is the seat 'stuck' in its normal position for travelling ?

The seat is stuck in 1 position (all good to accommodate a passenger, but cannot move the seat forwards or backwards. The back rest can still be adjusted. 

I have tried to check if the fuse needs replacing, but as agile as I am, I can honestly not get to it. I can see them (best if using a little mirror). They are also not marked as to what area in the car they relate to.

 

I don't have the moon/sun roof. Is the sequence I described correct to reset the windows? I got it of a facebook post from an autoelectrician in Brisbane who has helped another Alphard enthusiast with their car. Will resetting the windows have any possible positive effect for the chair. (Perhaps they are on the same fuse?).

 

I think a lot of the electrical have been "upset" somehow.

• I was driving today and the headunit turned itself of (black screen) - after a little while it turned itself back on (whislt still driving). 
• the headlights are playing up - when they are on, the turn off when choosing "auto" and although they go back on when turning the switch back to "on" they shine at a different brightness than the first time they went on.
• The light on the dash turns on when turning the car on, but when you turn the lights on, the dash light turns off (not the indicators etc but the back lighting so you can see the spedo etc.
• the steering wheel "mode" and "volume up and down" stopped working... 

So yes, it does look like I need to get my hands on the manual, even if I would take it to a mechanic/autoelectrician to work on her...

The manual I recommend is an Owners Manual.

It will not help you with many of the above issues.

It will show you fuse box locations, and which fuses are in which boxes; and all the fuse ratings.

The Manual does contain instructions on how to operate the seat manually.

 

I am no auto electrician.

My standard advice to anyone with electrical gremlins is to ensure your starter battery is in tip top condition and is fully charged.

Check also the battery terminals too.

There is little point in progressing without checking those fuses.

 

I am reluctant to offer any advice that may have a detrimental effect.

 

I have read that disconnection the battery for a couple of hours, and reconnecting may allow the various ECUs to reset.

 

I could send you the written part of the manual, privately,; but it would be quite a task.

But without the illustrations it may not be much use.

 

Read my previous private mail, it lists the tools you will to work on the seat.

Hi.i have exactly the same problem with the Welcab seat in my 2004 3.0 Alphard.have got power to the seat but no response from the buttons.if i get it sorted i will let everyone know.i am a bit surprised nobody seems to have any ideas as it seems a known issue.there is an Alphard specialist on disabled vehicles in Brisbane according to Facebook.hope this helps. Thanks Stephen. Sorry to hear you are having the same problem with your welcab seat. I hope you will find a solution. 

Yes, I found Brisbane Wheelchair Lifters, I would say this is the Alphard specialist you are referring too? I have not yet spoken to them. But I guess I will have to result to that, as it doesn't look like I can fix it myself with my limited knowledge 🙂 If I learn more, I will post an update! (A manual for the chair would even be great, but I cannot locate one)

I suggest you buy the JPNZ manual from eBay.

The section may help, may not; but the manual with worth having anyway.

Hi Guys.still cant get my welcab seat to work.gone through all reset procedure,all the buttons give the correct bleeps when pressed in the right sequence but refuses to move.there is a constant bleep when door is closed,lasts about two minutes then stops.couldthat be the seat position warning?am baffled as to what else to try. The first thing I did on buying my Hybrid Alphard was to send away for the Hybrid version of the manual. I bought the Alphard manual from ebay and it was posted from New Zealand. It has been quite helpful and the picture on the front is the same colour as my Alfie in Olive Green
