How to remove instrument cluster / speedometer

Hi all, does anyone know how you remove the instrument cluster from the Vellfire / Alphard?

 

I have seen some instructions for the previous 10 series models but not for the 20.

 

I am looking to have the speedometer changed and need to send the instrument cluster down.

 

If there's not a specific walkthrough guide does anyone have a rough idea where I can start to remove? Thanks in advance.

I woudn't have thought it's much different to the Gen 1. See this video for some clues at 1:10.

On the subject of which am I the only one who thinks the speedo needle is too chunky?

When trying to keep to a specific like like 30 the needle almost completely obscures the number and its difficult to tell if the car is doing 28 or 32, sounds a bit trivial but do you know if there is a slimmer needle...

Thanks Geralt, I have seen that video but he already has the instrument cluster removed, I was looking for advice on how to remove the cluster from the dashboard.

 

I can't see any screws that's holding it in place, so not sure if I need to come in from the side of the dash, or if the stereo needs to come out, etc.

Yes but he describes how he removed it, starting with the two screws at the top.

 

Are you saying you don't have screws at the top in a similar position?

I have to admit I had a feel for them in the dark this morning, but I will check again tomorrow and report back, thanks

Hey @Geralt so I've had a check and my instrument cluster does not have any screws for the removal. I can't see anywhere that you would even start to remove the cluster.

 

If anyone has any advice that would be great. Thanks

For anyone wondering, I just took the trim removal tool all around the black plastic surround of the instrument cluster and those popped off, so managed to remove the trim.

 

The cluster was then held on with 2 white clips at the top right / left, you just push them to the side to loosen.

 

The bottom 2 white clips you just need to pull with a little bit of force and the full instrument cluster pops out. Hope this may help someone in the future.
