It is NOT about an Alphard or Vellfire, but I thought it may be of general (it was to me) interest to club members, especially Hybrid owners or anyone considering a Hybrid purchase.

 

It explains what is involved.

Interestingly, it refers to 5 hours labour.

I replace batteries in an hour.  The video does not concern the Toyota Alphard.

I think I did state that it is not about Alphards/Vellfires.

I have such a car and I have been repairing it myself for 5 years.

I did a bit of research:

 

1) Entire battery pack: can be bought, with high capacity options thats moves away nimh from overseas.  hybrid experienced shop should be able to replace one of these without issue.

2) cell by cell repair:  really requires a specialist.  looks at voltage of each cell and replaces cells as necessary. ATH10w cells match gen 1 prius cells, and also gen 1 estima hybrid cells.  Look to cab companies.  THey may have developed this know how in house.  Our cab companies use prius vehicles.... replace battery packs 200-300thousand km driven if i recall correctly.  Engines at around 4-500k km.

 

I was looking for used battery cells for rebuilding the battery pack of our ATH10W (2004) and a seller told us Gen 2 or Gen 3 Prius cells can also work if we change the cells in the whole pack to the same type. Any insight / experience with this?

Don't use Gen 1 cells. 10 series Alphards came with Gen2 cells, I have had the pack replaced with Gen 4 Prius cells.
