Can anyone tell me how far I can drive once the fuel light comes on. I have just joined this club and would appreciate any advice or information many thanks Andy

i personaly would not let that light come on as you will suck up all the shit at bottom of the tank and would not want that in your fuel lines

Depends somewhat on whether it's a V6, 2.4 or hybrid to be honest.

 

I have a 2.4 and it does appear that the reserve on them is pretty massive.  When run until the light comes on, I'm pretty sure there is still between 12 and 14l of fuel left in it....certainly good for a good many miles (50/60 at a push).  As others have said though age of these vehicles and the garbage that's probably in the bottom of the tanks, regardless of fuel filters etc it's probably best (whilst not really a problem to run until the fuel light is on as there's plenty left) not to run it on vapours.

Best way to test this is to carry a jerry can of petrol and a spout or funnel and run out of petrol making a note for future how far you drove with the orange light on. about 3 months ago my Alfie was 60 miles into the orange light zone and the fuel gauge was showing empty, I eventually got to the regular BP filling station I use on A272/A32 crossroads and filled her up, 65 litres were put in, tank holds 70. 65 litres so far is the most I have put in. I don't as yet carry a can.

The light comes on at a specific tank level, so how far you can drive depends on fuel consumption.

 

When the light comes on go and full the tank. The difference between how much fuel it took to fill and the maximum capacity of the tank will then allow you to work backwards to calculate how far you could drive after the light has come on.
