burgermeister Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Right so I have an issue with the tell tale on rear fog light with my 2007 2.4 Alfie. This is the first MOT I have had with car and its flown through on everything that I have ever had a fail for previously, however the MOT centre have pulled this issue. I have a round rocker switch which operates the rear fog lights, however there should be some sort of visual aid to indicate that the fog lights are on, at least that's my understanding so far. My question would be, are there going to be any issues with me replacing the round rocker with an illuminated switch instead. I can do a bit of the work myself but I'm not confident with wiring etc. therefore I'm not really up for a major rewire haha! Any advice appreciated, thank you in advance.

No. But best to use a rocker switch with a rear fog light symbol (and illumination, which is a must). The light must be off without the rear fog and on when the fog is on, just to be clear! They also need wiring through the lighting circuits so as to be on only when the lights on on. Some MOT testers seem to take pleasure in failing Alphies when they fail to press the correct button.
burgermeister Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Brilliant, thanks for that, I am hoping to find one that's going to fit straight into what's on the existing switch, but I guess if it's been done, kind of as an afterthought, then this is wishful thinking. I've had the car a year now and I love it, so the tweaks will be worth the effort.
Picasso Posted January 13 Posted January 13 hello check this link these are a direct fit but idealy you need the red one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355959377505?_skw=led+rocker+switch&itmmeta=01JHFE1534HFY4K1WEKXW5ENXY&hash=item52e0d50e61:g:TBgAAOSw2Sxmvu8C&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKmA5u1paJMlHksKubdytkiC2t7oFX8SlM5l0K2lhy6Alf1CQ%2FsV44zQFdC2NAOgtsMQ1iavyWmIX1nmZAW89i3%2BuMPeOCBd%2B5v2QZJnlmKSe7xSDUlAfSKoK11kxP%2BS9v7uzEmeq7yC1%2BYvA3aOHSQaifeC%2FKbowSfufebY%2FFDEl3%2BQOlAY52Z67gkGfHkRWlDR3AmEXTLhAAZzL73xKu7lQUHSqz0tZz4hRpwJVTtSux0dACl2RMiaCnKr54viQAM%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR-jRhO6LZQ
Picasso Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I have just spoken to my importer iva regulations are the fog light switch is supposed to have a red led light to show its swithed on and would fail a mot with out one.
Tessie Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I have just fitted this switch from Amazon, a match for the existing and fits where a blank position is. Have a look around though as I only paid just under £10 for it a couple of weeks ago from the same Amazon supplier. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AUTOHAUX-Switch-Light-Toyota-Alphard/dp/B0CP61TL91/ref=sr_1_1?crid=OWU3IRYM8PT1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.lRfcibj5HC7hZ01mK_fHDmZszXmK8o5rc2_Lrt28OVY88amMiqeR1KYvwkJPVTmpII7ygZYt8PvCQz1BoaFkUy6pqf7Q2BOpKD5jQRDb_Xs4uy2H744XxVLaDxz1iriUbE1MEkNUZHshHU_-bmf9mPj4aU0N32dJfncop7i5JTuReIbF0wSfh3rqeFgZimvekTrGxg_04We_VirDqZ6ad1NpEydEmPzKbUQjlC6aPG4.f9zIJvMAR825OLtLNPDrwjeztAZ71z_DBi3-gW2tqNQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=alphard+rear+foglight+switch&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1737151170&sprefix=alphard+rear+foglight+switch%2Caps%2C71&sr=8-1
burgermeister Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 No idea how to convert it from the 3 wires coming off it that must be on about a 3mm spade to these enormous ones on this switch. I have a small round rocker switch installed into a blank switch probably around 15mm diameter. The one I have purchased is 23mm diameter so I'm in for a real treat here haha
smurf Posted January 26 Posted January 26 (edited) As the most converters looking to save pennies tend to use the same cheap round rocker switch, you can replace it directly with one that has the built in light. No need for extra wires as the light is powered by the circuit running through it. Here is just one example...https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251361499016?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YRTmJau9QrW&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ql8_keC9RJe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY The proper switches look neater, but you can get it MOT compliant for a couple of pounds if that is all you want.
