SingaBored Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Hi all! Had my Vellfire for a few months now and love it… doing many miles loaded up with hockey equipment and it’s perfect for the job- however- The VX report spec shows it has a fuel capacity of 65 litres- I struggle to fill it with more than 40 litres. Doing so the fuel gauge doesn’t hit full but there’s no way of fitting another 25 litres in there. Am I missing anything or has anyone had similar challenges?
stad34 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I thought it was a 50 litre tank based on how much I can get in there. It would be so much better if it was an 80l 👍
smurf Posted April 4 Posted April 4 On a gen 1 the fuel tank is 70 litres. I think I read recently that when the low fuel light comes on there is 11 litres left. If you are finding a significant difference to these figures it is worth getting under the car and looking at the tank. It isn't unheard for cars to be lifted with a fork truck in the docks and this can dent the fuel tank.

It’s a 20 series page, not 10 series 😉 Also unlikely to be dented as sure they are plastic tanks on these Edited April 4 by stad34 1
Chris.ac Posted April 5 Posted April 5 20 series. 65litres. I've run the tank down as far as I'm willing to risk it, but never managed to get more than. 54litres in before the pump shuts off. I dont know if the capacity is before they displace some space with the actual pump/float/evap purge system, and i imagine that at 'empty' there will be at minimum 5 litres still in tank to keep pump wet and cooled. You can look on YouTube and see some Toyota's like corolla being driven until they stop, and they all seem to be able to run for at least 50 miles when the tank reports empty, one corolla travels about 98miles on empty, which tells you that Toyota is basically reserving up to 10 litres in the tank for cooling and lubrication of the pump. I guess it's similar to how speedo can over read but not under read your speed, they don't want people waiting to refuel to the point going up a steep hill with make engine starved of fuel.
Goz Posted April 7 Posted April 7 I've taken mine down to 57L a few times ... generally shows empty at 52L ... Have driven it from Sevenoaks to High Wycombe with the fuel guage on empty 😄
NeilT Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I have the same issue, see this thread. I just live with it but it is a bit annoying on longer journeys. 1

SingaBored Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 Thanks all- it is a weird one! Got to the station today with 4km left (the other half wouldn’t let it go further), and 45 litres again… no idea where it’s gone! Range sits at 400km when full, so it is ‘ok’ just annoying as wanted it to be more of a long distance barge
Jimmympv Posted Wednesday at 07:30 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:30 PM Got a 20 series, The petrol light comes on when the range indicator drops to 0"km" (actually miles since it was changed electronically but the km can't be changed to display just an m) If I fill up straight away it barely takes 50l to fill the tank. So I calculate I have around 10l at least left in the tank when cruising range reaches 0 which would be a good 50-60miles worth of range before getting to dangerously low levels. I have wondered if the Petrol light will start to flash when it gets too low like on my previous cars.
Goz Posted yesterday at 07:36 AM Posted yesterday at 07:36 AM I twice ran it for 50 miles or so past the 0km left on a rnu down and back up through France in the past week. Both times refilled to 58L and no signs it wsa dangerously low on fuel ... Not sure I want to push it any further mind 😄 Slightly annoying only managed to get 55L in while I was in Andorra ... Only paid €124.2 per litre as well!

Goz Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Badum tish ... petrol stations always quote it in pennies or cents ...
