Jon Bartlam Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) For sale here is a 2006 Toyota Alphard 2.4 E-Four Hybrid. 106748 miles on the clock. I'm after £2200 for it, and to save some time when you want to buy it we'll have a little back and forth where you'll ask me to drop the price and I'll eventually agree on £2000 and won't go lower. So now we have what we're selling and for how much, why? First, I ask that you read everything to get a balanced view. I want to be totally honest about what's for sale here including the good and bad - something you may not get elsewhere. We've had this alphard for about 8 months. We love it and it is running just fine, generally. There are things we need looking at on it though and we're finding it difficult to find someone willing to work on it and it's more effort than we're willing to put in (we've not put much in mind you). It's MOT is due up at the end of May and while I do think it'll go through just fine, I don't want to commit to it for the reasons you'll see below. Please contact on jonbartlam@googlemail.com or 07963 938 346 The Good * Decent service history provided including the replacement refurb hybrid battery and AC compressor it's had fitted. * Mechanically it seems absolutely fine (I'm no mechanic). Decent gear changes, smooth engine, no knocking etc. * Brand new (3 or 4 months old now) Bosche starter battery fitted. * Swivel Rear Seats * Extremely Comfy Van to drive * Cruise Control * Reverse Camera and sensors * Body work and underneath is in good condition. The underneath looks like it's been treated to me but either way, it's tidy for it's age for sure. * Hybrid system is of the 4WD type. * Rear Seats fold up and away. Videos Engine Start: The Bad Since we've had this car we had an instance where the starter battery failed. It's now been replaced with a brand new Bosche battery. Otherwise it's been mechanically sound. The engine sounds good, it responds well and drives wonderfully. Underneath of it is exceptionally clean for a car this age (actually not just for it's age). That's not just my opinion but the mechanic we use took a look too was surprised. Where it hasn't been sound is the electronics. We intermittently get the check engine light come on. When the engine is stopped and started the error clears. I strongly suspect from reasearching this, that the oxygen sensor has gone bad and needs replacing. I've been running it with Redex Cat cleaner and premium petrol to try and clean the engine incase that helped but hasn't done much. It's an intermittent issue that happens generally when you hit the motorway and accelerate up to speed. The other issue I think is that the water pump for the hybrid system is failing, which is causing the hybrid system to overheat. This is just my suspicion and from hints from online forums. There have been 2 occassions in the last 8 months where the hybrid system warning light has come on. The van becomes sluggish operating just off the motor but does run. The system tends to kick back in once the van has been parked for a few hours which is why I think overheating. Only other issue is that a headlight warning keeps popping up on occassion with arrows next to it. No idea what it is but doesn't stop anything working that I can see. Final 'issue' which I think is very minor, but it's been jacked up in the past off the wrong points, we think (my mechanic and I) this has crushed the compressor pipes for the air con to the rear cab. They still work though and you won't notice it I doubt. Happy to point it out when viewing but it's an optional job. Now you've had all the bad listed out too, I hope someone will take this van and spend a bit of TLC on it. I think it will make a wonderful day van, camper conversion or cheap family car. We don't really want it to go but honestly, we aren't competitant enough to keep this running as it should be and someone else will appreciate it more. Edited May 4 by Jon Bartlam
