Hi guys, the wheels that came with my Alphard need to be refurbished. Been to see someone today and they suggested powder coating them which makes sense but in black. Here is a picture of the standard wheels, anyone seen them in black before? Would like to see a picture of them in black as not sure what they would look like. Cheers

Mine are becoming tatty, I am thinking of getting a new set from Wolfrace for around £500.00. I haven’t considered refurbishing the existing set, how much does this cost, approximately?

Thanks,

Alan

I had my alloy wheels refurbished, not my Alphie ones, some 13 years ago by a company in Exeter.

I was concerned as they were about £1k each new ! They were large and wide at the time; relatively small now.

They came back better than new, if that is possible. £60 each wheel.

Although mine did not need crack repair, or porosity work, they were checked for distortion too.

Very quick, large car; so trueness was very important.

13 years later they still look fantastic when I occasionally clean them !

Hi guys, massive thanks to Picasso for the pictures of his wheel refurbished wheels. I was about to get mine done in black also but I'm thinking of getting a new set rather than refurbishing them. Mine is 2007 full conversion, what are the considerations when getting a new set? I know nothing about wheels. Any advice would be appreciated.cheers

Try and stay with the OEM sizes for wheels and tyres; or very close.

The OFFSET is very important; it is normally marked on the inside of the wheel rim.

Check the OEM value.

Fitting larger wheels with a smaller sidewall tyre height (55/60/65) will harden the ride somewhat.

You may wish to check before doing anything with your insurer.

Nice new wheels can increase premiums, and do not forget to fit a locking nut on each wheel.

Hi Rojie, thanks for the reply.

I was looking to keep the same size 17in wheels. I've looked and the offset on mine is 7JJx17 ET45.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but does the weight of the van make any difference when buying wheels? It's a full conversion. The site I'm looking at supplies wheel at the correct off set for Alphards but doesn't mention weights.

Also if I buy a 17in wheel, would my new 225/55/17 tyres fit.

Sorry, I know nothing about wheels and tyres.

If you’re going to change the wheels my advice would be to buy a decent named brand. A lot of the aftermarket wheels available are cheap rubbish. You’ll have to do a fair amount of research as it’s a bit of a mine field. I hated the original 18” wheels on my 2011 vellfire and thought they made it look dated.

I fitted a set of genuine 19” Rays wheels which are wider and have a more aggressive offset than standard. It looks so much newer and the ride quality is significantly better. It feels much more stable in the corners and hasn’t sacrificed the ride comfort.

The offset above is correct.

The wheels / tyres are one of the standard sizes.

It is very important to have the minimum speed rating.

There is an opinion that says campers are heavier than the standard.

Some, including myself, hold the opinion that the camper is probably slightly lighter against a fully loaded eight adult seater.

However, some of us do fit XL tyres for added 'safety'.

XL are extra load, not extra large !

Get your tyre fitter to confirm correct fit; but he will.

Do not forget to tell your insurance company if fitting non-OEM type wheel/tyre combinations.

Otherwise you may find your insurance invalidate.
