I've just bought a gen 1 and the passenger side front personal light is out. I ordered a replacement bulb but it's still not working. Have I ordered the wrong bulb or could there be a problem with the fixing itself?

Did you ever get to fix this, as I've got the same issue. Just going to investigate further as both bulbs are good. As an aside, has anyone found a UK source for the 8w bulbs used in the front personal light?

  2. Just to let everyone know that the part has been refitted. The two pivots (near the top of the item in my pic) fit into two holes on the underside of the main part. Positioned one pivot then pushed the other side up and it clicked into place. Now just need to test that it will hold a full cup without dropping.

Hello Peter do you mean the red reflector at the bottom of the drivers door

Yes. I think some call it a puddle light. The previous owner was supposed to have replaced it, but was upfront by saying he hadn't managed to find one. I'm just going through my list of jobs that I found during my first month of ownership

  4. Removed without any real problems. Just needed a quick tug with one of my trim tools and out it came. Now, able to see the wiring for the current rear fog lamp switch and what was done to the standard wiring. I believe the grey plug at top left of the pic was the standard connector. This had five wires. The green power and the wite/black earth wires have been cut off and connected to the top two terminals on the after market switch. The bottom two terminals on the switch have a red and a black wire in a sheath and heading towards the lamp. That leaves a wite/black, a grey and a green/wite wire still in the plug. AS there are only four wires on the new switch, which wire do I ignore form the standard wiring?

Easy if you have a trim removal kit (very, very recommended) - even if you don't you can open the storage just underneath and push it out from behind, use a blade or screwdriver to gently prise it out, or send a small squirrel or raccoon into the dashboard with instructions on what you expect - who knows it might just work (it being a million-to-one shot after all). 🙂

Is that the whole grey panel or one of the switches, you are describing?

  6. Having purchased the switch recommended by Dezufo, i was assuming (quite wrongly) that the change from old to new would be straightforward. The current switch has four wires. Two red - one feed in; the other out to the single after market fog lamp - and two black. One black I assume is to earth the in switch warning light, but what would the other black be for? The new switch also has four wires, black for earth, red as feed in, green to lamp and a yellow marked as positive. What is the pupose of the yellow wire and what should it connect to? I thought I understood car electrics, but this has me really stumped!

It could be that someone has spliced into the wiring, maybe for the rear fog switch, and the warning light is getting feedback. Check if the light goes brighter if you switch the front fogs on

Thanks once again and good thinking! I did notice that when I removed one of the feed wires from the rear fog switch that the dash warning light briefly went out, but then came back on again. I do hate people who don't follow the rules about car wiring. They don't realise the problems they cause further down the line. Grrr!

I can confirm what Gamith has said, the toll card reader can be unplugged and removed, the power to it can be used for usb points if required, front fogs (and warning light)  are controlled by the rotary switch on the lighting stalk

Thanks to both you and Gamith for the replies. As the front fogs are using built in wiring, I'm wondering why the amber warning light for the front fogs is permanently on, no matter what position the switch is in. The fog lights themselves are working correctly.

  9. In amongst other jobs, I wanted to sort out why the fog light warning light on the dash is displayed permanently. The switch in picture 1 is for the aftermarket rear fog light and the in-switch warning light for that works fine. So, first question is am I missing the front fog light switch completely?

Second, in removing the drop-down coin tray thingy, below the steering column I found this extra device, in picture 2. It looks like it might be a mini-disc player, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else come across anything similar?

  10. While doing a lighting check, I noticed the LH side light bulb has failed. Supposedly had an MOT in May just before I bought the car. How do I get access to the bulb and what name is given to it in the GEN1 bulb list. Its an 02 MNH10 3L model.

According to my 2021 AA Camping and Caravanning Guide you could look at:

Bishop Monkton - Church Farm Caravan Park

North Stainley - Sleningford Watermill Caravan Camping Park

Masham - Old Station Holiday Park

    Kirklington - Camp Katur

    Knaresborough - Kingfisher Caravan Park

    Harrogate - Harrogate Caravan Park

                      - High Moor Farm Park

                      - Ripley Caravan Park

                      - Rudding Holiday Park

                      - Shaws Trailer Park

I haven't been to any of them and this is from a 4 year old book, but maybe one of those will be suitable.

Thanks for taking the trouble to check this out, Gamith. It was a need for this  weekend, and as replied to earlier posts every site I checked, including some in your list, are full on Saturday night. So we have decided not to travel and will be booking further in advance when we do need to visit.

Hi, you could try Sleningford Watermill caravan and camping park at Ripon. They have electric and non electric pitches. It's  the only one in the area I've stopped at so can't really recommend any others in the area.

Another one that is full this weekend. Realising now that we won't be camping this weekend. Duh!
